Hey guys
Do clams that come with a piece of large gravel attached to their bisal thread release it and reattach to the rock it’s on or does it need to surgically removed ?

Maybe super glue the gravel to the perch ?
I only worry that might restrict the ability to move the clam in the future...in case it doesn't like where its placed.

Maybe super glue small supporting rocks to the perch to help keep it propped up?

Hey thanks everyone , great suggestions
The clams stayed put overnight , still on the gravel but no snails pushed it over

I think she’s settled here , still got the gravel though

Nice maxima! Just place it safely in the rock work and let it do its thing. It will attach to a solid surface in time and most likely move around a bit until it's settled. As mentioned earlier, never glue anything to a clam's shell to keep it in place. Give them lots of full spectrum light, a safe place and they'll be happy.

@minus9 do you have a tips to get a maxima to attach to something? I have a small one that I received not attached and it refuses to attach to anything. It has good mantle extension and still shows a white growth band. I've had it 4 months. It was on a rock for a while then jumped off and has not attached since. No bulldozer in the tank that could have pushed it off. It has been in a container full of rubble for a month or so now. I have two crocea and two derasas in the same tank doing well. TIA

I've found over the years that maxima, squamosa and noae all do this sometimes. Some will move themselves around, but never firmly attach themselves and others move and "lock down". My noae never attached strongly at all and would just move or pivot in place. If it has good mantle extension and is growing, I would be content with it not attaching. When crocea don't attach, that's something I would be concerned about, as they attach 100% of the time and only move when they are stressed or something has changed. I've had several maximas that never attached, mostly wild caught ones that I tried to rescue (but those never end well).

Thank you.

What does a less than fully open mantle suggest ? Is it because it’s using its energy to attach the rock or something else
It’s 2 days now and the first day it fully opened
