New Controller and a Question

I have purchase a new Apex crontroller and went with the "Lab" Ph probe. Can someone explain in laymen terms what is the difference in a Lab Probe and a Standard Probe. I have already spent the money so this is just trying to learn and understand the real difference and if it really matters which one you use.
