New Digi Cam.. need tips please

I got an Olympus SP500 UZ for xmas and I cant seem to get those great macros you guys post. Here is the camera http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1189

I have two macro settings and neither one seem to get in close enough for that single polyp macro. I have a tripod, and I have tried lots of combinations of manual settings, but I cant figure it out. Photography never was my thing really. Any help would be much appreciated.

i have the c-700, uz, an older model, and i was able to get plenty of close up shots, but if you can't get a single polyp shot, take a wider angle and crop if you want closer.

the problem is the macro mode is made to take really close up shots, but even in a tank, you will be focusing on something a few inches+ away, and the camera is trying to focus on the glass or something closer, so sometimes macro mode isn't the best option.

thanx. I have noticed it trys to get the glass. I can actually adjust the focal point using a scale in the camera. I will try to get more out of my non-macro modes tonight..

Hey Matt...I had the C750UZ until this Christmas when I was given the Fuji E900 (9MP).

With the Olympus I really only tried to keep as couple important things in mind for the good shots. Always use a tripod. Always keep the lens completely flush and touching the glass, and take a ton of pictures. I had 1 on/off Macro setting that I always kept on...but that's really it. I never used the flash, and was able to zoom with the Macro function...which I am unable to do now for some reason with the new one.

thats what I am seeing too, when I am in the macro settings I have very little range of "zooming"
I am going to take a million or 2 pics tonight and see what happens.

yeah...so making sure the frag is close to the glass always helped me to...then make sure your taking full resolution pics so you can crop small close-ups of specific frags, and still have them look good.
