My new Waterbox AIO frag tank arrived and was wondering others who are also running frag tanks do you pull water from your display tank to feed our frag tank?

I was thinking about drawing water from my Display tank to feed my Frag tank, but was wondering are there any disadvantages or advantages doing this or should it remain independent from the display tank?

My Plan was to install a GHL Maxi Doser and do AWC using my display tank as the source changing out about 1.2 gallons a day, but wanted to hear from others on how they currently have their frag tanks setup.

Thanks

I don’t see any issues in doing that. Many folks run them plumbed together to keep everything stable and save equipment costs.

I ran mine separate as a just in case. If my display happened to have an unfortunate event my frags would keep going.

I am considering doing something similar. I happen to have a spare Ca reactor lying around, so the cost difference for setting up two independent tanks is mitigated.
I see this as a value proposition.

Separate frag tank is insurance on your main tank, but at extra expense and lower stability for both.
Plumbed into your system is risky in the event of a pest or tank nuke, but is cheaper and more stable day to day.

Let us know what you do :)

Thank everyone for the input, I am going to take the water form the display tank through my AWC. Instead of my existing AWC emptying into a drain line I will reroute that to my new frag tank. I will then place a #GHL Maxi Doser on the frag tank and a float switch which will pull the water first before the AWC on my display tank starts.

Then use the other dosing head of the maxi for ATO.

I did the same about 2 months ago. I use a liter meter 3 from spectrapure, but same concept. I think it works great. You’ll want to minimize evaporation in your frag tank or the salinity might get too high. Also, my feed line to the frag tank is above the water line so that nothing in the frag tank can travel back into my main system.
