No we have been swamped at work. Sounds like I may have to put in a couple I joists and a post. If that’s the case will have to build some wall to hide the post as it is a finished basement. Was hoping to avoid the post but the jury is still deliberating so... not rushing it, got enough other things to do to stay out of trouble.

Glad to see yo and Zack making progress.

Yeah been following his build also. Sometimes it seems like it’s out of synch especially when great sales are happening. Don’t want to buy a bunch of equipment to have it lying around. It will come together sooner or later.

I added roughly 100 pounds of dry rock last year to my running tank and it’s coming along nicely now. Looking pretty good other than the aiptasia which I need to get taken care of.

Been pretty slow moving on the tank and basement fish room lately still trying to figure out how I’m going to plumb the tank. I will have roughly 16ft of lateral plumbing and roughly 14ft of vertical. If anyone has suggestions that would be appreciated. Heading to gulf shores this weekend for a week. Is there any place I should check out when I’m down there? Plan on making progress when I get back.

If that doesn’t work with the plumbing I’m thinking of moving the sump location so it’s easier to plumb.

What are you looking for help with specifically?
Can I plumb the overflow plumbing the same as I can the return? Straight up and over? Or does it have to be stepped down gradually to keep water in the downward motion?

That’s a good question and tagging @vetteguy53081 and @fishguy242. In normal plumbing design you always want your drain pipe to have positive drainage with no standing water. Since you have such a long horizontal run I am thinking there could be an advantage to adding a trap and negative slope to slow down the free fall of the water and hopefully cut down on some splashing/noise. A ball valve at low end for flow control and a drain valve above it so you could drain the run if needed along with a couple of unions at key spots so you can take it apart

Thank you for tagging them, I reached out to someone I know that has a much longer lateral run than myself so we shall see!

Following this thread! Awesome build, just set a large one up myself, wish I had a basement!
One thing you may want to consider if you can, would be 2x powerful return pumps (or a backup), in the event something happened to the one pump, not all readily available pumps will be effectively able to push water from basement to 2nd story!

Good luck, looking forward to seeing it come together!

Thank you! Not much of a build yet but will be shortly! I was planning on buying two return pumps from the start just in case for that reason! Definitely going with the iwaki brand they can handle some serious head pressure! Thanks for visiting and I will be checking your build out!

I was thinking of doing larger than 1” so I’ll have to do this! Will water run threw them fine on a longer lateral run?
