Hey All,

Introducing myself, I am sure i will ask lots of questions in the coming months and years. I am Chris from Dundee in Scotland.

15 years ago I did have a fish only reef tank, i think 250-350L (cant remember now) and it was reasonably successful. Life took over and gave it up as had a new born child.

As of a few months ago i have started again, this time with a nano tank on my home office desk (Red Sea Max G2 Cube) which seems to be okay although the skimmers a bit noisey (any tips would be appreciated).

In tank atm:

2 snow flake clowns
2 blue leg hermits
1 nefarious snail (although looks like i found a baby this morning)
1 conch

and just added 3 beginners corals a few days ago:

2 types zoas
1 toadstool

Paramaters all seems to be good and happy so far apart from i seem to battle with micro bubbles any time i use the skimmer.... im not sure my bioload really merits the skimmer atm so might turn it off.

WELCOME, Chris!!! Let us know what type of skimmer you have and post it up in the reef hardware/equipment discussion section! Sometimes, just placing a muffler on the air intake can help with the noise.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Happy to have you here.

I wouldn't turn off the skimmer as you won't have the same level of gas exchange without it. Oxygen levels and pH will decrease significantly when turning it off. Maybe try if you can find a foam level setting at which the micro bubbles aren't as bad and just let it sit there.

Welcome to Reef2Reef!!! I encourage you to start another thread with pictures and details about the micro bubbles. If it is actually coming from the skimmer, then it is possible that there is an issue with the skimmer. You could also set up a micro bubble trap between the skimmer and the return pump. It is also possible (small chance) that there is a pinhole in a pipe that is above the water that is not necessarily related to the skimmer.
