I would definitely suggest a larger clean up crew for that size tank. Reefcleaners.com has great packages customized by tank size, with a nice assortment of different types snails. Not sure if thats something you'd want to do right away but I could be wrong. Im sure there is someone here that can give more insight.

Where are you getting your saltwater and r/o water from? Could be high in silicates. And if i remember correctly... Cyanobacteria loves silicates.

Ive never used Vibrant or Chemclean(sp?) on a tank so I really cant say one way or another about them. Maybe someone else here can.

Also how deep is your sandbed?

The sand bed is only about 1/2” now
I keep removing some when I clean the black stuff out
It also is on my green star polyps I can see it when the polyps are closed

I would stop dosing. Pretty sure the cyanobacteria is feeding off it. Which is probably why your test come back as 0.
I agree with a good water change And check out the algae forum.

Hi All
Any help would be appreciated
I have a 40 gallon breaker withe a homemade 20 gallon sump with a sock a skimmersfloss and carbon
The tank has been running for 6 months
I have always had algae problems brown and green
About 2 months ago most of the brown algae disappeared
I now get a turquoise green covering on the crushed coral it appears in one day after cleaning
The next day it turns black and has strings
In 2 days it will cover the bottom
You can not remove it with gravel cleaner
The gravel is matted together
I usually scrape the top layer off
I have had 0 nitrates from the beginning
Decided to add NP + 2 days ago
The first day the water looked not as clear as usual
Yesterday I added it again
This morning my tank was soo cloudy I could barely see the overflow
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Welcome to R2R. Hope you sort that problem out. Lots of knowledgable and helpful people here who will support and advise you when needed.

Welcome to R2R! Looks like you've had some good advice. I used Vibrant in my tank (90 gallon) last year, but it took several months for my horrible hair algae outbreak to disappear. Good luck with your algae issues. Love the user name!!! ;Shamefullyembarrased

Welcome to R2R and the wonderful folks, information and help.
Patience, it is the big word around here, Reefing is patience to cycle, to watch things grow, to keep your tank balanced.
I recommend to everyone joining to create a tank build thread.
1. You get to see where you have started and how much you have grown in this hobby.
2. We love pictures and to see what your doing with your tank.
3. It’s a great learning tool for all of us to see what works and doesn’t . We learn great stuff from each other.
Lastly the only bad question here is the one not asked...
