Can you sell me on why upgrade and how many fixtures?

Honest answer first: if you're happy with what your LX7 setup is doing, no need to upgrade. These were and still are great fixtures. Not going to push you into something you don't need.

If you do want to move to LX8, the LX8506 Coral Pop has more LEDs in the violet/UV range than the LX7 and noticeably higher power density. Worth it if you want more fluorescence or more headroom.

Another reason for an upgrade could be the really cool design, especially with our "Ambient Glow" feature.

On fixture count — we don't make a 4-cluster LX8 (yet?), so a 1:1 swap isn't possible. That leaves two realistic options, and the right one really depends on your tank:

2× LX8506 — power-wise this roughly matches your current 2× 06 + 1× 04. Works if your tank length lets two fixtures cover it cleanly. But you lose one fixture's worth of spread, so if you went with three originally to evenly light a long tank or avoid hotspots, you'll notice.

3× LX8506 — keeps your spread and homogeneity. Power-wise it's overkill, but that's actually the point: you run each fixture at much lower current, which means cooler operation, better efficiency, and longer LED life. Usually the better long-term call on longer tanks or wherever you want very even coverage.

These look very interesting. I’m building a 9’ 400 gallon tank and I plan on doing a full blown GHL Profilux controller, ION Director, KH Director and a couple of dosers and thought the new Mitras LX8 may be the way to go over the ATI Straton X.

It’s going to be a while for the new tank so by that time, these should be out with some feedback from users. Tank will be mainly SPS. Could I do 3 of these fixtures over a 108”L x 32”W x 27”H tank?

I must convert to metric dimensions to think this over ... so this is a huge tank with 1500 liters with 274cm x 81cm x 69cm (h). I doubt that 3x LX8 will be enough. It depends on how even the spread/intensity must be and if you want to have sufficient PAR even in the corners at the bottom, and how you arrange your corals. Are they concentrated and elevated in the center of the tank? Then 4, maybe even 3 could work. Although the LX8 have a wide spread, consider that the active area (with LEDs) is approx. 20x30cm (8"x10X) and you will have shadowing, especially with a 81cm deep tank. It is physically just not possible to illuminate the entire area straight from above when you have a sport light (a spot with 20x30cm) and not an area light which covers the entire tank (even when other vendors claim other things...) As said, all depends how you arrange everything in your tank.

Thank you, Matthias. Most SPS will be middle to upper part of the water column. Probably some LPS around the lower area and bottom of the tank. I do not need 200-300 par near the edges and corners so 3-4 should work.

Answers to the most common questions about the LX8:


When will it ship?
From October 1, 2026.

Is there a pre-order promotion?
Yes. Over the coming months, we'll be offering the first batch of the LX8 for pre-order at a significant price advantage. The introductory price applies until the quota sells out – at the latest until the end of August. Details on pricing and how it works will follow soon.

What mounting options are available?
Three: ceiling mounting with cable suspensions, attachment to the tank rim with the Mounting Arm (clamping width 48 mm – also suitable for aquariums with bracing), and attachment to the back of the cabinet with the Flexmount 3.

How does the Mitras LX8 differ from the LX7 series?
The two series are similar in many respects: good color mixing and deep light penetration thanks to the special reflectors. Beyond that, the LX8 offers more power (250 W instead of 190 W), a new Wi-Fi module with OTA updates, 12 color channels instead of 9, a dedicated moonlight, Ambient Glow, and wider coverage – owing to the higher power and the more widely spaced LED clusters. The three LX8 versions (Freshwater, Marine, and Coral Pop) largely match the respective LX7 versions in terms of emitted light. Thanks to the additional LED channels, however, the LX8 spectrum is more continuous; on the Coral Pop and Marine versions, the proportion in the blue-to-UV range is slightly higher.

Will the LX7 remain available?
Yes. The LX7 is still a first-class light and well suited to many applications. It is positioned below the LX8 in price and will remain in the lineup.

Can I connect the LX8 to ProfiLux?
Yes. Like the LX7, it communicates wirelessly with the ProfiLux 4 – which can then take over control, and Ambient Glow can display the system status if desired. The LX8 can also be run in standalone or master-slave mode.

How do I operate the LX8?
The LX8 offers maximum flexibility here: connection via Wi-Fi, or USB as a backup. It can be operated via app, web server, cloud, or PC software.
