NEW Product: GHL Doser 3!

The new head stalking was fixed by updating the newest firmware. Mine is upgrade kit and the 1.56 firmware didn't fix the stalking issue, but the newest 1.58 did.

Upgraded a 2.2 to a 3 today. With the new pumps gained about 50% more flow at speed 3. Like the upgraded pumps but I had now issues with the old pumps when run at slow speed.

Awesome! So what do the maxi and doser 3 sound like at low speeds? Seems like a no-brainer to replace my DOS I’m using for AWC that’s obnoxiously loud at 25ml/min

Newer stepper driver IC's can produce much different operating characteristics, especially if they use newer features, don't need as much torque, etc.

If you're at all around the 3DPrinter world, there are some literal magic tricks done to turn noisy into dead silent.

I did not try the maxi at anything lower than what was in the video. I might try one head at a 1 and see what it does. Just using that for a RODI flush on my sodium hydroxide line. The just seems like a quieter still some noise but insignificant in my use case all dosing pumps in a basement closet behind the tank.

There is not really a large noise difference between Doser 2 and 3 (normal, not Maxi). They are not very loud anyway. The main difference is the higher flow and the even better accuracy thanks to the planetary gear instead of relying on friction between motor shaft and rollers.

The StealthChop driver chips are amazing. I just designed some driver boards using the TMC2209 SilentStepStick. It is a massive improvement.
 
I upgraded one so far. It is not in service, but testing using the panel buttons, 2 heads will not move, they are stalled and two jerk intermittently. I pulled in the tubing a bit and it seemed to help, but it feels like these are right at the edge of their torque curve. I am not sure if anybody else has had an issue.
Otherwise they seem well built.

I am not sure if it will get better as tubing breaks in, but would assume it will. I am a but hesitant to upgrade the doser that does my 3 part or the KH director until I get this sorted out.

I suppose first, I should just try to calibrate them and see how that goes. Maybe that will be enough to "break in" the brand new tubing.

That said I am not sure how I am going to move forward yet. I
Just an update here. Firmware 1.55

2 of my 3 dosers are upgraded. I am still having issues with stalling on some heads, not on others. Maybe a QC or fitment issue? I have not attempted to swap parts around, and will be very frustrated if it comes to that. I have tried to break in the tubing on the affected heads by running a liter or so of fluid though. They got a bit better, but any stalling is not acceptable.

I will have to open a ticket, but this is a bit frustrating at this point. Maybe the latest firmware adds more power, but the lack of release notes is also frustrating, as is tearing out 20 PAB cables to upgrade.

@Gaël any feedback here before I open a ticket?

I just opened a ticket. I have run into what feels like a larger doser 3 issue. It may be of my own making or misunderstanding. @KStatefan @Lasse, thoughts?

Below is the text of the ticket (typos and all) that I am waiting for response on.

Hi - I have upgraded my doser 2s to 3s using the upgrade kit.

1- firmware 1.55

2 - Set to doser 3 in PAB configuration.

Observations: At slow speeds some heads still visibly stick/stall momentarily and chatter before breaking free. This is random. Some heads do not exhibit this behavior. I have tried breaking in the tubing sets by simply running RO water for a few liters. It helped on most heads, but I still have issues on others.

Testing:
One of the heads that does not appear outwardly to be stalling: I have setup a 500ml container and set a nightly scheduled dose of 500ml.
Speed = 0 slow

Calibration with RO water. Dosing pump 11
1 - Set 100ml actual and desired. Clicked "Save" (I will explain below in notes)
2 - Close and re-open doser 11 to ensure settings are being used.
3 - Click "calibrate" and dose into an appropriate graduated cylinder zeroed on a .001 balance.
4 - record actual calibration dosage in dosing pump 11 and SAVE. This is 11ml min with the current suction and discharge tubing.
5 - Set "desired dose rate" to 1ml min

The dose runs, but of the 500ml prescribed dose, only ~250 ml of it is delivered over the expected over the 8.33 hour dosing run.
This is a tremendous error. Ignoring the single dosing run, this error would be the same if it was 1ml 500 times over a period of days or weeks.

I this a math issue with division of steps? Is this a doser accuracy issue compounding? Is this a Speed 0 issue vs Speed 1 and math/dosing calculation?

I have repeated this test numerous times and the results are basically the same. I have not measured exactly how much is delivered or left or attempted to work backwards to step math.

NOTE: from above. If "calibrate" is clicked with a "desired fkow rate" lower than actual then the pump appears to run at that rate and not "0 slow" full RPM. This is not intuitive, but appears to allow one to calibrate at the "desired flow rate". However that begs the question. If I set 11 mL/min actual and 1 mL/min desired and the flow test produces .88 ml in one minuted, there is no way to adjust for that. Changing the ACTUAL would then again change the the output and this would be an exercise in fudging "actual" to get "desired to match.

I am at a loss here at many levels. Can you please offer some insight?

I am afraid to upgrade my actual prime dosers for Alk/Ca/Mag/Etc and the doser for the KH director at this point. "


Hopefully this is just me selecting the wrong dosing speed and the math not working out with steps or something like that. As for the sticking heads, I don't know and I don't know if the head that I am using is not visibly sticking but still significantly missing steps.

Hopefully I get answers soon.
 
I do not adjust the dosing speed down from whatever it was calibrated at. To me slowing down moves it away from where you calibrated it at. Have you tried leaving the dose rate at where it was calibrated?

Sorry to ask but I need top ask this question. What type of tube do you use on the suction side? In my experiences you need to use a stiffer one than the usual silicone hoses. I prefer to use PVC tubing/house on the suction part. If the suction part has been silicone - I have had problem with inflating houses - if you understand what I mean. You did never known what it give

I run most of my pumps in desired mode - and it works rather good

Hi,

I have make the upgrade to the new doser head (3) for the doser 2.1. After assembling it exactly the same as the old board, and updating both the profilux 4 and the doser to the latest version, the pump heads are running in reverse. I can't seem to find any information about this. Any thoughts

You need to mark the doser as being upgraded.

Amazing. Thanks a lot, this is a life saver. I just crossed the lines to deal with it, but I will change it tomorrow for this you mentioned. Now I'm having other issues, not sure if its becuase the pumps heads are going in reverse or what, but this thing is making a lot of noise and the pump rotary jitters and get stuck very often. I tried greasing with with silicone grease and nothing.

Mostly all of the pumps are doing this. I opened a ticket with GHL, but if you have an answer for this, please share.

I do not know but make sure they are on the latest firmware I think the latest is 1.61

They are. I update everything to the latest after installation. Did you ever had a similar issue like I'm mentioning. Wondering if I got defected pumps
