Hi Jon, Reading your post and I am interested in the parts that you got for the lighting mount. Getting the same tank soon and planning on a T5 led Hybrid but don't want to hang them form the ceiling. If you could post your orders for your lighting mount that would help me figure out what I need for my order. Tank is looking great ......thanks

The 2 channel t-slot profile that I went with. I wall mounted so you need to measure carefully to make sure that you will be able to get your lights centered over the tank. I had the vendor perform all cuts.

T-slot 90 degree connectors. 4 of each type. I used an outer AND an inner connector on each mount for added strength.

I then used these to mount the cable kit that came with the lights to the arms. You will have to figure this part out depending on how your lights will hang. This will also determine the spacing between the arm pairs.

I drilled through the arms and used toggle bolts on on the arms that couldn’t be located on a stud.

HTH,

Jon

Following along the tank looks great! I am 8 weeks into the cycle in my 750 as well. Only issue I have so far is the ATO. I am looking for ideas as the stock ATO is a pain to fill and I evaporate about 1.5 gallons a day. Have you kept yours stock or looking to mod?

I agree about the ATO. I love the simplicity but refilling it is a pain. The height of the reservoir means I siphon from a bucket on top of a bucket on top of a stool! I have an idea for a remote controlled refill system that I’ll work on over the holidays. I will never run topoff straight from ro/di to the tank because I am a believer in simplicity and redundancy. Even if the entire Red Sea reservoir emptied into the tank-it wouldn’t overflow the tank and it wouldn’t change the salinity enough to cause mass death. It is a PITA to refill though!

JonJ. The acrylic top looks great. I have the same tank and going to order the screen top. Question, in the pictures I do not see when your powerhead wires. Does the screen top have an opening/cutout for them? Thanks

I run 4 Vortechs for water movement so there are no wires going into the tank. Artfully Acrylic custom makes each lid so if you need cutouts they can do that for you.

Made a few changes today. I got out my par meter (Apogee SQ520) and was measuring in the low to mid 300 PAR range at the very top of the rock work. That was with the Orpheks at full power and the meter corrected for immersion settings. I get this in my lps tank with 2 t5s and a Kessil A360. I am planning to keep sps exclusively in this tank and I feel that I need more than that. I had the Orpheks mounted almost 15 inches over the top of the tank making the light travel 26 or so inches to reach the top of the rock. With what came with the Orpheks, I was able to install the hanging kit and get them 6 inches from the top of the tank. I don’t notice any shadowing and it cured the light spillover that I was getting before. I did a water change at the same time and with the water a little cloudy, I’ll have to take new measurements tomorrow.

Are you having any issue with the Mp40 not holding good enough on the 19mm tickness glass from the tank ? I am building mine and I could heard that the mp40 were not the best for the 750 glass tickness ;Cyclops

No problems with them holding at all. All four are all on full blast reef crest mode too.

Awesome thread mate - I’m getting the V4’s too! Do you find the single 2 units provide enough light front to back? Do you feel you’ll need a Compact in the middle once the SPS grows out or will the 2 units suffice?

With mine so close to the water (6-7 inches) I get good coverage based on my rock placement. I have been placing pieces with lower light requirements near the middle and the ends. As far as front to back coverage goes, it’s good. I don’t have any rock touching the front or back glass or the edges of the aquarium so I have a ton of light where I need it. I could raise the lights for better spread if needed down the road if needed.

Waiting on delivery of my 750xxl now. I’m also going to be running my two mp40’s on the back wall but undecided on running two on the ends or running two powerheads inside the tank on the ends. I would really like to have a clear view on the ends. I see you moved two back to the ends. What are your thoughts on it?

They didn’t work on the back unfortunately. I couldn’t turn them up more than 3-4 without them moving all of the sand from front to back. I moved all 4 to the ends and can run them in full reef crest mode with no issues. For a rear mounting solution, you would need a 36” (front to back) tank in my opinion. I’ll post some updated photos soon to show how I placed them.

Ok thanks, I have them on the ends of my 6 foot tank now. I guess I will leave them that way on the 750 too. Would love to see some updated pictures.

Going to steal your idea with the shelf covering up all your wires in the stand. Looks really nice. I can't stand looking at tangled wires, ha.

I took a few pictures tonight. My decision to go with all frags in this system means that it will look empty until things start to grow out. I cut off all of the plugs before putting them in this tank and the frags are all encrusting nicely. Here are a few pics that turned out ok. Shooting pieces that are deeper in the tank is tough!

This is one of the nicest setups I have seen. I really like the rock work also. Mine is too high in my current tank and it blocks alot of flow but as soon as my 750xxl comes in I'm going to try and do something similar to yours.
