This is one of the nicest setups I have seen. I really like the rock work also. Mine is too high in my current tank and it blocks alot of flow but as soon as my 750xxl comes in I'm going to try and do something similar to yours.

My current tank

Thanks! I can’t wait for everything to fill in. I still feel like I could have used a little less rock to allow for the eventual height of some of the staghorns I have in the tank but I didn’t want to use less than 100 lbs. Your tank looks great btw!

Looking good! How good a job are those Orpheks doing? Thinking of using them on my upcoming build.

Still one of my favorite builds! Really liking your fish selection. How have all of the fish been getting along? Have any of them picked at your corals? Anything you would have done differently?

Thanks! So far so good. I really like the color of them. We’ll have to wait and see how well they grow coral!

Thanks! Everyone gets along fine at the moment. None of them have nipped the corals so far and I hope that doesn’t change. As far as what I would do differently, I would have gone bigger!

Ha, It's the perfect size for me. I'm currently breaking down my 155 and going to just focus on the 750xxl for now. Having to maintain 400 gallons of saltwater isn't as glamorous as you would think.

The Red Sea topoff system needs some refinement. Mine has clogged twice in the float ball so make sure and clean yours every few months. Or take the line off the tank side and blow thru it as others have said, it's hard to refill as well. I've got an 18g reservoir and an osmolator ready to go in.

I've had 2 mo40s going for 6 months and have decided to add more flow. I'm adding two tunze 6095 across the back wall angled towards the sides with their controllers. Should be plenty.

Never had an issue with mp's sticking thru my glass

I’m running 4 mp40s on full reef crest and am thinking of adding two small powerheads at the base of the overflow box pointing up for more flow. The 4 are doing a good job of keeping detritus suspended in the water column but I would like a little more flow in the back of the tank. I agree about the auto topoff. It’s a pain to fill and it clogs.

The 2 channel t-slot profile that I went with. I wall mounted so you need to measure carefully to make sure that you will be able to get your lights centered over the tank. I had the vendor perform all cuts.

T-slot 90 degree connectors. 4 of each type. I used an outer AND an inner connector on each mount for added strength.

I then used these to mount the cable kit that came with the lights to the arms. You will have to figure this part out depending on how your lights will hang. This will also determine the spacing between the arm pairs.

I drilled through the arms and used toggle bolts on on the arms that couldn’t be located on a stud.

HTH,

Jon

This is awesome!! Thanks so much for posting this - what length sizes of the 30-3004 did you go for?

I didn’t list lengths because they will completely depend on the lights you use and the distance off of the wall the tank is placed. Put your tank where you want it (empty) and then measure out from the wall to get the overhang that you need. I went with 40 inch pieces for the pieces that mount on the walls. The top pieces that hang over the top sit on the pieces mounted to the wall (mine are 19 inches)

nice build.

where are you keeping your params?

I use Fritz RPM salt and do weekly water changes of about 15%. I keep levels at:

9 dkh
440 cal
1320 mag

NO3 and PO4 are barely detectable but I have to clean the class every 2 days and have various algaes growing in the sump (so I assume I have some). Macro growth has slowed quite a bit as well as the tank has matured. I feed frozen foods exclusively, around 6-7 cubes per day of various offerings.

Looking forward to the next update - I’m currently trying to decide on either a 750XXL or 650 Peninsula. Do you find the lights provide sufficient coverage?

I’ll try to get some new photos this weekend. I have added more frags-it still looks empty! The 2 lights provide good coverage on this tank and I have actually raised them as I am increasing the intensity. I plan to run them at 100% for 5-7 hours a day using their “clouds” feature. I am really happy with the tank however, if I had to do it over again, I’d get a quote for an 8 footer with external overflows from planet or other custom builder. That’s probably just me never being satisfied though :)

I thought it might be cool to document the growth of the frags that I have in the tank and update with pics as time goes on. Pumps off, half way through a water change I took some pics. Orpheks were set to ‘Actinic deep blue” for these. I need to invest in some photo software at some point as ‘I-photo’ that comes on a MAC is a bit limiting. Everything is coloring up nice and encrusting but no real upward growth other than a Sean Bennett yellow tort that is a weed! I feel like everything is getting ready to take off. I have more current in this tank than I have ever had before so I think that the frags want to lay a solid foundation before going skyward. I have trouble shooting blue and yellow corals- blues look washed out and yellows look green. Anyways here is a good portion of what I have so far at low tide. It’ll take 2 pages as there is a 30 photo limit per post.
