I would just like to upload pictures from my phone with out first uploading to a 3rd party site like Flickr or photobucket then figure out the URL link and embeds code. Personally I like the way Facebook handles for sale groups.
That's why I use the r2r app instead of Tapatalk or the mobile site.

Agreeing with the security of transactions all stated above...

In regards to the look of it, would be nice to have a look that would break out products into more specific categories. I.E.

- Lighting
- Tanks/Stands
- Sumps
- Skimmers
- Reactors

I would do that. Also add controllers and then break the live stock down like how liveaquria has it

#1 thing I would like to see would be a feedback system. Back in the day I was into sports cards and https://www.sportscardforum.com/ had an excellent feedback system. It was basically just a feedback rating underneath your post count. But it let everyone know that you could buy with confidence (similar to eBay).
You can still see the persons feedback. You just need to go to their profile page.
But we use to have feedback posted in the same area as the post count.
I wonder why it was changed? @revhtree

We can already do that here, just use the mobile site :)

For me I have never bought anything from the sellers Fourm. I would love to because there are some great deals but for me it's had to trust the person selling it with all the scamming going on. It hard to trust someone when this hobby is so expensive and the last thing a lot of us need is to be scammed. So I would think a good way to make sure the transaction goes easy with both buyer and seller protection.

The first and best line of defense is using Paypals for " Goods or Services" feature.
Reef2Reef wouldn't be able to guarantee a person's equipment or coral. Only the buyer seller reputation.

See I have never used PayPal to make a purchase with a private seller only use it with wwc a couple of times. So idk how the whole process works. Now I have read some of the negative feed back on here with some buyers on the sellers. Just wondering if someone gets scamed out of money does administration delete the users account so no else gets scam? Or does it just get a turned head to the situation?
I also have read that you have to be a member and have posted say like 20 times before you can start to sell things. Me personally think that should be way higher say like 500 posts with being a member for at least 6months plus. So you know that they are not just jumping on here. Posting 20 times saying random stuff just to scam someone out of some money. With being a member for alot longer might stop some people trying to scan somone. With all the extra time they would have to invest in order to do it. I just can't stand people that rip people of just to make a buck.

The R2R app is a private label Tapatalk.:)
The feature on ebay where you place bids and you can watch a auction is good.
I wonder if eBay would do a private label site just for R2R. Would be easier than a total rebuild of functionality.
PayPal and Apple Pay or Samsung Pay for those so inclined would be nice.
PayPal let's you dispute purchases. I have seen sellers lose money because of a shady buyer too. So its both ways as for as losses.
Maybe if one is not on the up and up in buying and selling they are banned for life from the site. Using ip address and mac address banning.

Sadly that moves people to Facebook not the forum.:) Not the idea I think.:)
Biggest problem with Facebook auction groups for corals if you place I bid you do not get notification when the auction is about to end so you can change your bid if you want like you can with eBay.

Something I've noticed recently is Facebook has been deleting sales threads of corals and fish. Even in private groups.
I guess Facebook is attempting to halt the sale of live animals on Facebook.

Yes, Facebook is trying to remove the selling of live animals. When you report a post that is actually an option for reporting it.

A couple comments from someone professionally in the industry of developing large scale apps (including payment processing, web apps, e-commerce, and mobile applications).

  • Be careful about binding yourself 100% to paypal.
    • They have a great service with some awesome features but those features (as mentioned above) can come back to bite sellers too (malicious buyers, can dispute legit transactions, and paypal is weighted to buyer satisfaction, this means sellers who may be 100% legit can lose sales).
    • Also PayPal has pretty draconian policies on account management. I personally had an experience where my Wife's personal paypal account was permanently banned (for life) by paypal, because at one time a year ago, I logged in as admin on a past employers account, which was involved in a large disputed payment situation, and they banned her account via association through me, to my past employer, for a dispute that happened like a year prior (and did NOT ban my account, or employers account). After dealing with support on this, and escallating numerous times to managers, etc. I was basically told "Sorry, we realize this is crazy, but we don't really care, just deal with it"
    • Not saying "Don't use paypal" but be careful about choosing paypal as an enforced payment method, you could turn away valid buyers and sellers.
  • Another piece of info, a rating system is important, but consider your own verification system. (I also participate heavily in crypto-currency communities, and they had to solve this problem pretty quick too).
    • In other words: Your site has a feature, allowing certain users to "Verify" themselves within your site. There are third party providers that do this for a small fee. The verification requires providing name, address, phone, and verifying through identification or some other mechanism to prove you are actually at that address/phone, etc.
    • This info would only be held by your site (the verification/ID etc would be via the third party). And in the event that someone has a dispute, is ripped off, etc, a the site could provide contact information or aid in dispute resolution somehow. Having that "Verified" stamp next to a name would be a huge re-assurance, combined with a feedback rating, that a user can be "trusted"
  • Supporting Crypto payments (Bitcoin, Ethereum) would be a cool touch. Though not sure how much overlap in the communities there are (meaning it might not have much added value honestly). Either way a nice bonus :)
  • I'd like to echo the "local" aspect, being able to find people local to trade with is a big deal. Especially for those outside the USA where shipping may be problematic.
  • A very good search and "guided navigation" system is critical to the success of that type of system, don't underestimate the complexity of doing that right.
  • Create some kind of standards for photography, and make them "rules" in the site:
    • Allow tagging a photo with WYSIWYG but have a mechanism where the buyer can report "Wasn't as shown" in that case, and do something like after 3 bad reports, give them a negative hit to reputation, and disallow them from using WYSIWYG tag anymore
    • Allow tagging as "Enhanced" or "Natural" photos too, again same kind of rules, allow buyers to report when photos aren't reflective of the appropriate tag. That way buyers can know what to expect based on the images posting (within a reasonable degree).
  • Keep metadata on listings
    • As already suggested things like "Appropriate Tank Size" and "Is compatible with" etc, are useful for filtering.
    • For livestock, having a database like what liveaquaria does, and populating some facts about the species, care, compatibility, special needs, etc would be helpful to sellers, and buyers. Allowing a seller simply to select the species of livestock, etc, and have the database provide a bunch of useful info to the buyer automatically.
    • For equipment have flags such as:
      • New
      • Used (if so, how? how much? how long?)
      • Purchase Date
      • Warranty (if any)
      • Expiry? (chemicals, test kits, etc)
      • Rated Tank Size
      • GPM (pumps)
      • Etc, just multiple "stats" per item.
    • All of these data points can be fed into a good guided search or guided nav system to make the user experience in finding what they want that much easier.
I've probably got others, but can't think of them right now. :)

If you're looking at building this out, I'd be happy to talk more about how I (or rather my firm) could help. Feel free to fire me a pm if you're interested.

Right, because Facebook does not permit the sale of live animals in the terms of use.

This is a really awesome post with great details! I don't think I could add much more than this!
It does certainly seem clear to me that a lot of the listing would need to be achieved with fields of drop-down selection. Not all fields would be required, but many would.

First, especially if there is going to be a commercial section there should be an option to group multiple of the same item when searching or a way for sellers to have one listing for multiple items. One of the most annoying things to me on eBay is a seller who has 500 of an item and lists them all individually.

Secondly, while I understand the want for a minimum post, that would be difficult for someone like me. I joined this (and other) forums to learn. I don't have much experience (maybe a year as this point) and therefore don't have much useful information to share, but I may want to buy or sell something.

But you have questions right? Ask them on forum post's by others that will help you as well as others. Newbies asking questions is what forums are about. [emoji3][emoji106]

True, but art this point I have no new or novel questions. Don't worry, I'll get there. Right now I'm still able to use the search function (or the almighty Google)to find most answers.

Back on topic though, what about a map feature to find local sales? If I were to travel to a show or swap, it might be cool to find other local stuff for sale if I don't know the area well?
