Hello and welcome to R2R . Is this a new tank or did you get it used ? Have you tried an algae scraper of any sort on the white marks ? As for the frozen food I feed nothing but. I buy it mostly in cubes and cut what I think I need off a cube , add some Selcon , thaw and feed
It is a brand new tank. I haven't tried anything yet. I don't currently own an algae scraper yet as I thought it would be a while before I'd need one. I could get one and give it a go, but I was thinking maybe even just a cloth that won't drop fibres in there?

Hello and Welcome to R2R! Possibly the mark is just algae building inside the glass. A scraper would be the thing to use
Could be but doesn't really look like it. I will try a scraper anyway and see what happens. I think it's just a mark from the packaging although I did wipe it down with paper towel, maybe not good enough.

Hey everyone, great to be a part of the community.

I am new to reefing. Currently I am cycling my tank using Aquarium Systems Start Your Tank by Dr Tim.

I have a couple of questions if anyone is able to help.

I've noticed there are some stains on the inside of the glass of my new tank. Just wondering what would be safe to use to clean these off while the tank is full? It's just like white smudging. I did wipe it down with paper towels before filling it but until there was water in it I couldn't really see any marks.

Also I have one clownfish in the tank. When feeding him a few pellets I notice they just sink or get past him. Would you just leave it and hopefully he finds them in the sand? Or should I switch to flakes, something that will float for longer give him a chance to see it.
Hey! Welcome to reef 2 reef and this amazing hobby. Sometimes pellets will fall and usually get eaten by any clean up crew you have so I wouldn’t worry too much.

If you’re super concerned the fish isn’t eating enough then get the flake like you were thinking.

I thought it might be a bit awkward feeding a single fish with frozen as he would need such a small amount. Would you just shave off a bit of a cube?
Yeah, just shave off prices. Or, I do it where I take a small Tupperware and defrost a cube, feed my fish and then put it back in the freezer, then take the Tupperware out each day and feed the fish. This isn't the best option

I literally just have the one clownfish at the moment. I'm using Aquarium Systems Start Your Tank and it recommends adding a fish on day three. So the other concern is the pellets not being eaten throwing out the water parameters. I think I'm going to try some mysis shrimp and maybe turn off the filter during feeding so it doesn't suck them in before the fish eats. Tank is a water box 25g so doesn't take long for pellets to be filtered out if it doesn't sink.

Howdy fellow Aussie!

I would try feeding frozen brine or even frozen mysis to your clown. I've had fish including my own clown not eat for a few days due to being in a new environment. Now he eats like a pig and is fat as hell
Hey mate! Yeh I'm going to try frozen I think. He ate a pellet or two the first day but they have got away from him since and he can't find them or the filter sucks them in.

Have you done it with flow on and flow off?

Frozen with good flow in the tank will stay circulated. I've also noticed in my tank with big flow the pellets stay suspended in the water column longer

I have yeh. They either sink to the bottom or float and go into the filter lol.
