New Tank Lines

I recently setup my biocube 32 and have white lines all the way up the tank. I used instant ocean salt with RO/DI water and mixed to a salinity of 35ppt with a heater. Had it mixing with a pump and wave maker for several hours. Could this be due to the Caribsea sand I added? I’m afraid to scratch the tank so ive been using the flipper with a credit card and it’s slowly coming off but not easily. Just want to make sure I’m not doing anything wrong! TIA :)

That’s strange! I’ve never seen anything like this before… I can’t think of anything you did “wrong”. Did you fill the tank in stages or something? It almost looks like salt creep from a water line. Like you added 5 gallons at a time and waited an hour between buckets…

A general recommendation would be to mix your salt in a separate container and then add to the tank, but I don’t think that would cause this phenomenon.

As far as removing it - a magic eraser will make your life much easier. Just make sure it is the original and not scented or with any added cleaning agents.

This happened to me when i started my new tank, it’s probably just sand or salt. You can just scrape it off.

I mixed about 30 gallons in a 32g brute with a heater, pump and wave maker. I let it go for 5-6 hours. We then pumped it into 5 gallons and brought it upstairs, maybe 10 min between each fill. I calibrated my refractometer so I know it was accurate at 35ppt. Maybe it just needed longer to mix or is from the sand since I was super cloudy when we put the water in. I will try the magic eraser! Thank you

I have the same issue but not quite as bad. I just think it was already on the glass before filling it but didn't notice. Interested to see how the magic eraser goes, let us know once you try it.

As stated, magic eraser will remove it. I have had that in every new tank I have filled up to some degree.

I believe this can be due to very small bubbles sticking to the walls of the tank as you fill it. If you aren't filling it all at once, then it produces a line for each time you pour a cup/jug/bucket of water into the tank.

I had this exact thing happen to my biocube. It went away on its own after a bit, scraping it can help.
