My LFS told me to not do water changes for 3-4 months on my new tank in order to let it mature. Is that normal when starting a new tank?

My nitrates and phosphates aren’t crazy right now but I’m assuming they will continue to climb as I continue feeding. And if I don’t do water changes I’m assuming I’ll have to dose to replenish my Alk, Ca, Mg.

I personally started water changes soon after setting up my tank and don’t see a reason to it do so based on the tank needing to “mature”.

Personally I believe in weekly water changes, I start once I add fish.
