Ok, my old system sprung a leak a couple of weeks ago so I ran out and bought a new tank and finished setting it up last week. I added a bacteria start up to get it going. The old system stopped leaking so I decided to keep it, so I now have the two tanks set up next to each other (wifey not too happy:kiss:). Figured it was ok because the old system has too many pests and annoying algae issues. Now even though my established tank has problems, my colonies have been doing fantastic. My new sps are very healthy, spreading and growing very fast. I want to eventually transfer these nice colonies to the new tank(minus the pests) but how long do I wait? I don't want to mess up a good thing.

Can you turn your old tank into a treatment plant? lol. I would transfer over invertebrates and fish, then treat the rest of it. What pests do you have? Redbug, AEFW?

None of those, thank goodness. I have aiptasia. It's been hurting my montis. Nuisance mushrooms that spread out of the last couple of years. And the worst thing is the algae that hitched along with the aguacultured rock I thought was so cool when I first started the hobby . I forgot the name of it but it's very invasive. It's the one that if you raise your mag up high with Tech M., it is supposed to go away. I don't want to kill my collector chalices, prize zoas and new sps so that is not an option.

I agree with Jcr's Reef, move over your inverts into the new tank, then treat/QT your corals,if you are worried about pest.

Forgot to add a pic of the new one. What do you guys think I should do with the old set-up. I was thinking of an invert + fish only or maybe throwing an anemone in there. If not I'll break down, boil the rocks, and restart it. I just hate doing that because after a couple of years it has really been giving me great growth and healthy corals.

you can kill your aiptasia introducin some peppermint shrimp in the tank, and for the problem alge i think that the blue leg hermit crab can eat that.
