We should take note that the current response by the Court does not answer all the aspects of the current federal and state laws. It only gave a narrow response that many believe will create years of challenges to the various state laws and how they mesh with current federal law.

For example, under current federal law it is illegal to sell pot for recreational use or medical use. The states are testing the federal government to see what will happen. It is a problem with the states selling pot because the sellers are not allowed under federal law to deposit their money in the banks. That is why many sellers have been robbed of both plants and cash by crooks. The banks are lothe to test the federal govenment when it comes to money deposited in their banks. So problems have come to the fore front that currently has no law to solve. The federal government wants to see how much potential revenue is available to them in the future. So they are comfortable to wait and see at this time. It won't be long until they get their cut via taxes or enforcement options.

I suspect the states will have problems with enforcement due to the new requirement to have audit teams set up to cover all the various tax districts and how to identify and persue inforcement across state lines with a small work force. We will just have to see. But try to get someone to answer the phone for help or questions in any of the state tax offices such as California or Washington and you will see what I mean. Then there is Oregon with no sales tax who requires Washington or Idaho business to accept a drivers license and charge no sales tax on a sale in the border states. Talk about nexus. Oregon residents can and do demand tax free sales on Washington and Idaho soil...how about that wrinkle. So some one could sell small parcels of land to individuals who might claim residency in Oregon....who knows what would happen.

The decision by the Court leaves many more questions than answers. I personally would not allow out of state interest to govern the laws of my state unless you want to kick the door open to many more legal problems in the future. It could be decided by ending state rights as they stand today and no one wants that outcome.

I think we should all fight this unfair rule. In many cases it is more expensive to buy via internet due to shipping costs. Just because it is easy to point and click does not make the landed cost less. People should shop. It is possible that the internet his killed many local businesses due to availibility of items not for sale locally. You have to pick and choose as a small business owner unlike Amazon who uses a shotgun approach and then weeds out non performing products.

Yeah, the tax thing is not really something anyone is too jazzed about (except the state I guess!). It's not really a matter of choosing this store or that, since it's going to affect all online retailers - including major ones like amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_left_cn?nodeId=468512

It already has, as I made a purchase from Amazon yesterday and paid sale tax. Bummer These tax actions will not stop me from doing business with BRS or Amazon. Just another factor in deciding who I purchase a specific item from. If this is not Nation wide , can Someone help out with a list of what states that are Not participating/companies?:D Good luck all

You all moan about tax in usa try living in the uk we pay around £1.30 (1.71 dollars) for 1 litre of diesel. Plus the 20% value added tax on everything we buy! plus they take 20% of what we earn and then we pay road tax on top of that lol goverments are greedy wherever you live
Those of you living the England (and the rest of Europe) have no one to blame for your sky high taxes but yourselves. Margaret Thatcher once said that “The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” Britons want free health care, well someone has to pay for it, Brits want and want and want.

Then you (Brits) get sky high taxes on everything, give up what you Brits think is free and pay for it directly. Here in the United States most people want low taxes, and we are not socialist by nature. Stop complaining about your sky high gas and diesel prices and demand from your government MP to lower the taxes.

By-the-way I have lived in England for a time, yes I was on an American Base, still I have personal experience with your system. Nothing is Free in life, you can either pay one way or another. Either work to change it or suck it up and pay.

Personally I have contacted both of my U.S. Senators and my congressman, I have also written the Texas Governor regarding the Sales Tax ruling and expressed my concerns and offered at least some solutions.

What have you done in England?

Texas is probably loving this. They are on record saying they would like for every major road in the state to be a toll road.

As for BRS and MD, I have purchased from both along with several other on-line retailers all with excellent results. I spend my dollars where they will purchase what I want for the lowest price .

As for the recent court ruling regarding sales taxes, for now some on-line retailers are still selling without charging sales tax, it is a hit and miss situation. The court has created a nationwide mess which will take time to sort out, so for the time being it is up to us as consumers to do our homework and see which supplier will give us the best price possible.

With a little work and some telephone calls I found a Neptune Apex for $719.00 including shipping and no taxes, so it can be done.

Amazon already charged tax in FL, but other sellers through Amazon didn't, sometimes even ones "fulfilled" through Amazon with Prime benefits. To the point of this thread, it's those smaller sellers that may now have to start complying.

And - you still owe the tax to your state. Its not the company that is responsible its you. Why do people not get this?

Because I and many others will not claim the purchase and here in TX we do not have a state income tax to file. :)

One of many reasons that I have homes in TX, FL and the Caribbean.

Here is a link to the Texas Use Tax Form.

https://comptroller.texas.gov/forms/01-156.pdf

Quote from form:
"Who Should File This Form - Any person or business, not permitted for Texas sales and use tax, that has not paid Texas sales or use tax on taxable goods and services brought or shipped into the state for use, storage or consumption."

LoL! You ARE really living in La, La Land if you expect the vast majority of people to actually fill out a form like that.;Clown;Dead;Dummy;Dummy1;Facepalm;Hilarious;Jawdrop

If and mean if a company begins to report my purchases to a state or any state tax agency, I will stop doing business with that company. If necessary I will order my product from overseas or I will simply ship them back myself during one of my many overseas trips where I do not pay a VAT or a sales tax.

There is always a way around any system. I already order a number of items from China, check out https://www.aliexpress.com or https://www.alibaba.com/. I have had no trouble ordering from either, full refunds when necessary, more often than not I receive exactly the same product for 1/2 the price as purchasing it locally. No sales tax, free shipping, sure I have to wait 2 to 3 weeks, so what.

Again LoL! Thank you for the early morning humor. Personally I do not know my neighbors, nor do I want to. As for any community, again personally I do not care. As for "paying your share" someone needs to define what my or anyone's share is, if some is a government bureaucrat then what is yours is theirs and in their mind that is fair.

@Tiger-Paws I don't think anyone is disputing that mostly everyone doesn't report sales taxes they owe, just that technically, people are supposed to be now and aren't. So it's inevitable that businesses here will have to start collecting it eventually.

Agreed and once collecting sales taxes is universal then people will find other ways to get around them, companies will begin offering to pay the tax themselves as part of a sales promotion or people like myself will order their goods from overseas and the game goes on and on.

For the time being confusion is the rule of the day and in confusion there is profit for those willing to exploit it.

Rise and grind people. All around I see and hear a bunch of people complaining about all kinds of stuff. But look at how lazy everyone is.

The guy that complains he's over weight but doesn't want to go to the gym.

The guy that complains he doesn't make enough. But turns down the 20 hours of overtime every week.

The people that complain cause they don't want to work harder. So your 1000 tank is now 1100. SO WHAT!!

The problem is everyone works for what is given to them. Maybe slightly moving up the ladder. NO!! you need to insist more pay. If the price of goods, taxes, everything goes up the way it does. Why not the price for your time? Cost of supplies goes up in recession so do my prices. And I stayed slammed (Cause I work hard and do a great job, everyday).

Complaining is a waiste of energy. Just imagine if you put the energy from this post into positive energy on a project.

Instead of complaining and asking how to get rid of it. Ask yourself, what can I do to make a lot more money.

And I have friends with one arm and one leg or know legs, making millions. Online companies, motivated speeches, and all kinds of different professions they have. They never complain and never have excuses.

We live in a needy, cry baby, liberal America.

Quit complaining and go get those extra tax dollars.
