Hello Reefing hive mind. Looking for some help with my anemone. At the store this was a beautiful green BTA with neon orange tips. It moved around mostly in dark hard to monitor spots in my tank for the first 2.5 weeks I had it. The last two weeks it settled front and center about half way up my tank, but when it emerged it was this dark purple color. Also it shrinks up and expels brown goo every day like clockwork for about 4 hours. Starts at 9-930 before lights come on and stays that way until about 1pm. Full disclosure my LFS guy says as long as it closes its mouth and puffs back out every day to just leave it alone but curious what others thought. He thinks it got use to the dark when hiding and needs to reacclimate to the light. Its not dying but its clearly not thriving either. One picture is right when I got it, the next less colored one is today.
2 AI primes on a Waterbox 50.1. 4 hour ramp up to 80% Blue, Royal, Violet, and UV. 5 green and red. 15 Cool White. Room also gets natural light which is why these arent cranked higher.

It looks happy in its current spot. I agree with your LFS - just leave it be and ensure continued good lighting and flow. You can also supplemental feed it once or twice a week.
I appreciate the response. I think I knew that but only a year in it is tough to do nothing when something is off, even if nothing is the best course of action.

I would also leave it be, anemones can act strange sometimes. Try to feed it, but don't overdo it. Might actually be spitting out if you feed too much. I have had mine behaving like that just before it split in two. I believe a split can be seen as a good or negative thing (Increasing its chance of survival when parameters are a bit off). However your basic parameters are looking good and lights look fine too. My rule with anemones is to not to touch it as long as it is far enough from any powerhead.

I appreciate it! It seems that the nems are more fickle and I am impatient for it to look like it did in the store. I will try spot feeding it now that it seems to have found the area it wants to be in the tank.

I have two (one bubbletip, one condy) that decide to curl up for a few days every month or so. Nothing's changed - perhaps they're just bored...
