Thanks guys, the tank is very maintenance free and is coming up on 1 year soon. I read a lot of material about people having so much headaches with there tanks and I love to share that I run a alkalinity level of 4.8 and only do water changes when the tangs poop gets built up in the sand(piles up in the corner lol) maybe every 3 months of around 40 gallons. I dose BRS pharma pouch calcium and alk in equal amounts throughout the day only 25ml’s of each. This tank is a 180 gallon DT and has a 45breeder sump. I literally only fill the auto top-off with tap water from the sink and swipe my glass every so many days. And that’s pretty much it. In January of this year before I started dose the tank with alk and calcium the tank Params was
Alk 3.7 (I know crazy)
Ca 390
Spg 1.019
Mg 1260
Phosphorus 0.074
This being said I was not changing water or dosing but I think the elements from the tap water was maintaining those levels. I had no issues with fish or coral loss. Everything was beautiful and bright colored, the corals grew slower but very great color. I have a few reefer buddy’s who said I should get my water parameters up to where they should be. After that I started dosing and new levels are not much better.....Infact, I only test the alk and dose to maintain the 4.8dkh now. I run a system that has a 36watt UV that runs 24/7, a skimmer rated for 230gallons or so, ATO, cheato!!!!! (I highly recommend to reefers to grow this In your sumps it’s a miracle for nitrates and phosphates and to house copepods), and have (3)4” filter socks .
I share this with you all because it’s really not that crucial if things are a little out of whack. I would LOVE to post what I have and answer questions.DOES ANYONE HAVE A SIMILAR TANK?
