Welcome to R2R! I'll say that you don't need an advance chemistry degree to have a reef tank, only a basic knowledge of what your reef tank needs to thrive. I hate chemistry for the record

It's not so bad. I would test my parameters in the beginning. Then after that I stopped for a few months (besides checking salinity). Only check if anything looks like it changed. I have a 10 gallon too. They say smaller is harder.

Just like most hobbies there are different levels of demand. You can have fairly affordable beautiful tank containing soft corals and some commonly had large polyp corals.
