New to saltwater

Hello, I just recently purchased a 60 gallon tank for my first ever saltwater aquarium. I have zero experience with this all together other then loads of research. I was really hoping to do a live coral tank. Not to sure how to go about properly filtering it though. I have watched several YouTube videos and even read several articles on the subject but honestly the more I look into it the more confused I get. I was originally going to go with a fluval fx4 but then I read that Hob fuges/skimmers would be efficient enough, or the aqua clear 110. Any help is highly appreciated. Also any tips on beginner friendly coral is also appreciated. Thank you.

The only filter you absolutely need is the rock. All the filters you add beyond that just help reduce maintenance and in the case of skimmers raise ph.

I have a smaller aquarium that has no mechanical filter other then an occasional filter sock to reduce particulates in the water. I just do weekly water changes to keep it clean.

In my larger aquarium I only have a protein skimmer and again occasionally a filter sock.

The thing about this hobby is there are many ways to be successful. You just have to find what fits your time and budget.

Jumping in head first isn’t always easy . And very overwhelming .

Ideally . If you can a sump is the best way to filter your system as well as hide all equipment and their cords leaving the display tank open for what we all love the most ( fish and corals and our later piece rock work )
