Hello Everybody,

New but not new to the hobby. Have been out of it for the past 15yrs and getting back into it for I have found out it calms my 3mth old son and got permission from the wife to start one up again.

Currently going with a 40Gal Innovative Marine Cube AIO and live stock Ill be going with is some snow flake clowns, mandarin and a miller blenny. Might do some star polyps or some zoes on some islands but the main structure I am going for is BTA's. Looking to do a sunburst of Colorado or Chicago.

Will be running a maxspect 36in LED. The light is old but was not used much before I took my tank down those 15yrs ago. Also running a MP10 along with a Jabo 3 for flow.

The tank is not up and running its cycle yet but will be in the next I hope 3 weeks and letting the chaos begin of this amazing reef hobby world.

Hope everyone's tanks are doing well and thriving as they want them to be.

Welcome back to the addiction 😊

Honestly, getting back into the hobby after 15 years is probably going to blow your mind with how much things have changed. Sounds like you already have a really nice plan started though. A 40 gallon IM cube is a great size, and BTAs with islands can look amazing once everything grows in.

Just one little heads up — mandarins can sometimes be tricky in newer tanks because they usually need a very established pod population to thrive long term. Other than that, your stocking list sounds nice and peaceful.

Also cool hearing your son enjoys the tank already. There’s definitely something relaxing about reef tanks. Half therapy, half chaos 😂

Looking forward to seeing the build once you get water in it and start cycling. Welcome back to reefing!

We're all here to help :)

Thank you,

Yes, I know the Mandarin is going to be awhile. I figured at least a year before I can add one into the tank so the copepod population builds up. Especially since I do not have refugium in this setup. The older tanks I used to have I did and they would populate so fast in it.

Same with the BTA was gonna wait about 3-4mths on those as well. After the cycle is complete of course.

Agree it is very therapeutic after all the maintenance is done and just enjoying it.

Ill be posting pictures soon so i can start my tank build thread from the very beginning. 😊
