Niger Trigger Fish, Reef Risky???

I bought a beautiful 2” Niger Trigger yesterday at one of Arizona’s fine fish stores.
I’ve always liked the blue/teal color and the unique way their fins propel them around the tank.
As I’ve always known, they’re a more high risk, reef safe with caution “fish. From clams to corals, inverts, even small fish might become dinner with these fish.
After watching a number of videos and discussing my concerns with some R2Rers (@ Cichlid Dad) my concerns lessened and my decades long desire to own one of these cool fish won out!

Any proud Niger Trigger owners out there?
Or any “with caution” fish owners who have no regrets?

They will eat all of your crabs, shrimps and snails. Blue throat trigger is much better for reef tank.

Some. I kept one for over 6 years and he never bothered anything, not even hermits or snails. Then one day he developed a taste for meaty LPS so I re-homed him. I no longer keep that type of LPS so I recently added a small one to my newest tank. They are a beautiful fish once they grow out some.

Nice!!! Always a fan, just aware of potential aggression. Some videos really changed my mind. One video actually showed a cleaner shrimp cleaning a Niger Trigger.
I have a 180 gallon tank. Very well established. My oldest fish is 12 years old. The new fish is at a huge disadvantage.

I have a 5 year old Niger and he really leaves my CUC alone, it's the wrasse that decimate them in that tank. I have watched my cleaner shrimp cleaning him on several occasions, but he doesn't like getting caught being cleaned and swims away quickly when he sees me watching :grinning-squinting-face:
I've not seen him touch any corals, but I don't have many in the tank at the moment, just some softies.

Mine too was in a 180 and also let the cleaner clean him. Throughout the years mine was in with some tangs a Picasso and a Blue throat trigger as well as a 30" zebra moray. I never saw the niger bother another fish.

I appreciate all of the positive and promising stories about the reefing nemesis known as the Niger Trigger.
Twice now in the past 24 hours my Niger Trigger has made friends with one of my Cleaner Shrimp. Say What??? The Cleaner Shrimp is cleaning the Trigger.
