NJ Tank Drillers

I’ll be looking to get an Aqueon 60G breeder drilled in the near future. Looking to get 2 1” holes in the back. The tank will be standard glass (not tempered). Does anyone know places in NJ where they’ll do it for a reasonable price? We’d bring the tank to them. Bring it home. I just don’t feel comfortable enough drilling it on my own especially without a work space as we live in an apartment.

If you don't find anyone drilling isn't really that difficult. A cordless drill and bit is all you need. In an apartment you could probably do it in a bathtub to prevent the mess. Just throwing it out there. I was nervous when I drilled my first tank but it was pretty easy.

I live in a condo, I brought the tank onto the balcony and did it there, I drilled my first tank 4 months ago. It seems overwhelming, but its so much easier than I thought it would be.

The most important thing is don't push, just let the weight of the drill do the work, it took me 25 minutes per hole.

My concern with getting someone else to do it, meant a lot of manhandling on the tank (in the car, out the car, up the steps, etc...), thats a lot that can go wrong.

I highly encourage you to get a diamond bit and try a hole on scrap piece of glass. You will quickly realize how straightforward and easy it is, giving you confidence to drill the 60 breeder. If you stay in the hobby, you will end up doing this several times so it’s good to learn now. The “mess” is very minimal.

If you have a hole template to guide the cut, once the drill bites on and starts grinding away, it stays in place. Biggest things are just keeping the glass and bit constantly wet, and being ok with the noise (which is my biggest concern, being in an apartment complex).

This is true but if someone else breaks it I can still say “well if they broke it then I woulda def broke it and feel vindicated.” Lol. I’ll search around a little more and circle back if I can’t find anyone.
