Hi,

Please be kind as I’m new to the hobby. We started our tank with dry rock and live sand. Doses of religiously with NT labs Satus and Optimus and have been testing regularly. We have no amonia, no nitrates or nitrites. We do have a copepod bloom. We added some invertebrates but I’m worried that we’ve not really had an ugly phase? Does this mean we can’t add fish? We are a couple of months down the line and hoping to add clown fish in a couple of weeks?

If you’ve been at it for months with no diatoms or other algae and no nutrients, I’d say you’re not dosing enough bacteria or not enough bacteria food.

I wouldn’t add a CUC if there’s no algae for them to eat.

What is the size of your tank? How much bacteria and ammonia are you dosing?

Hi, it’s a 65L we’ve been adding the frozen mysis shrimp regularly and the Nt lab Satus bacteria. There is a slimy film on everything but no green algae. We didnt have the lights on during cycling so I don’t know if that’s prevented a bloom? We have tons of biomaterial and had loads of copepods and stable parameters so our LFS said we were fine to get the clean up crew. We have been supplementing with algae wafers but they don’t seem to be interested in it so I’m thinking they must have something to eat!? Just not wanting to add fish if it’s not ready!
