Noise improvement for overflow box Sump return?

Hello,

My overflow box drain to the sump (dual) makes a ton of siphoning type noise. It sounds like a toilet flushing often. I'm thinking it might be because there's a partial siphon going and basically the water level isn't high enough above the drain pipe. There is a smaller inner pipe for air in each of the dual drains.

Could this be resolved by simply placing a gate valve under the main drain and leaving the secondary open for emergency overflow? I'm assuming because the water level isn't above the pipe entrance enough it's causing this partial siphon noise.

Additional info: the return pipe in the sump is way near the bottom fully submerged in water. Idk if that is causing back pressure on the siphon or if it's correct, it's how I bought it second hand.

Okay. I guess what I was curious about is this could function as a Herbie drain couldn't it? Was hoping to make less modifications in just adding a gate valve.

Air is being sucked into the drain causing the noise I believe. When I had a hang on the back overflow I build a little silencer stand pipe and it was dead silent afterwards. The return down in the sump should be under water and I don't believe that would be causing the noise.

Here is a link to basically what I built as well. Can be built nice and cheap with supplies from HD or Lowes.

Also look up Hoffer gurgle buster. I have a HOB overflow and that helped some. What helped the most however was doing a reverse durso. I still have the trickling sound but it stopped the flushing sound.
