Been using a 5% vinegar for carbon dosing but didn't seem to be doing anything after a few weeks so I decided to try Red Sea NoPoX. Been dosing it for about 6 days now but haven't seen my nitrate budge any. With a Red Sea Nitrate Pro test kit it hasn't budged much below 25-30ppm. I'm really starting to notice stn on a few of my sps. Here's where my levels at at

SG 1.026ppm
Alk 9.34dkh
Ca 475ppm
Mg 1480ppm
No3 24ppm
Po4 0.02

I went through the vinegar regiment that Randy had published. Last January I had to use it and it worked great but this time not so much. I stopped dosing the vinegar at 20ml/day when I noticed the stn last week and picked up the NoPoX. Currently I'm dosing 3ml/day of the NoPoX. The tank is a 29 gallon standard, less rock and sand about 21-22 gallons water volume. It's been set up for a year and seven months. Skimmer is oversized rated for up to a 75 gallon tank.

3 mL per day of NOPOX is, FWIW, a bit over 1/3 of total organic carbon in 20 mL of vinegar.

Be interesting to see how the nitrate responds.

Do you have the results of how the nitrate responded to the vinegar over time?

Here's the roller coaster testing of this past time. I just copy/paste from my Aquatic Log so it starts at the bottom. Nov 28th and Dec 2nd was tested while on NoPoX. Testing done by using Red Sea Nitrate Pro test.

And then here's from back in Jan when I used straight vinegar the first time. Again read from the bottom up. Testing done by API Nitrate test kit.

I purchased it on the 27th last Friday. Thought it was the 28th but I check my log. So the last 3 tests were with NoPoX not 2.

Little puzzled by the roller coaster on the no3
Your tank look nice btw, do you feed heavy? I do and only use 5ml on average with about 90-100 gallon volume, it did take some time to kick in maybe three weeks or so that said I don't battle po4 or no3 at all with NOPOX

Thanks. I don't think I feed too heavy. 4 fish, 2 cleaner shrimp, a few hermits, snails and a cucumber. On alternating days I feed only once a day either Mysis flakes, LRS Nano and Reef Chili for the corals. Fish like the Chili also. Other than that the only other thing I dose is AquaVitro fuel twice a week 1 cap full, food wise.

Skimmer is usually dumped about twice a week and the sponge filter is cleaned once a week.

I'll tell ya though, it really sucks watching favorite corals you've had since almost day one STN. Starting to STN on my Cali Tort, Bonsaei, Green Planet and my Tri Color. All from the bottom. Even my Cali Tort frag I have sitting on a corner rack.

Maybe the nitrate is a lot lower than you think, or the organic carbon dosing has promoted growth of an undesirable bacteria. Or maybe it is unrelated.
