Nori alternatives?

Love my new tangs, but my wife and I have noticed the smell. The tangs, especially the sailfin, love it, eat and shred it up quickly. We have noticed the smell of the decaying nori and the water is no longer clear as normal.

Is there any recommended alternatives for nori that doesn't cloud up the water or smell as bad?

I've never had an issue with the smell - can you change it out more often, and net out any pieces before they can start to decay?

Some of Julian Spring's Sea Veggies have more body to them, so won't break down as easily.

There isn't really much left after they eat it. Can see fine fibers swirling around in the water. It was recommended to do a half a sheet a day. Maybe go to a quarter of a sheet a day might help some.

My herbivores eat dulse. Available at Whole Foods and online. Natural, dried leaves of seaweed.

I second dulse it won't shred into fine pieces and foul your water and it takes a long time to rot in saltwater. It's also a lot cheaper.

Edit to add: sea lettuce would likely shred a bit but it has no discernable smell. It's also sold for human consumption for cheap

My tangs prefer Romaine over Nori. Big advantage is that it doesn’t fall apart and go all over the tank like Nori does. They have to take a bite to eat it.

Dulse is a seaweed that grows here in Canada, the U.S.A, also Japan and europe it's high in iodine, potassium and protein. We grow a lot of it to sell to Japan where I live.

I believe Dulse is also sold by many hobby companies, such as Sprung Sea Veggies (with a markup).

I would adjust your feeding amount and or fold the nori tightly. Nori or dulse is always going to more nutritionally complete for herbivores.
