NOT trolling here...

I'm having some DIY led diodes being delivered from China in about a week coming USPS.

Been hearing the Coronavirus could be as many as 100,000+ cases. China is not releasing credible intel.

Should I take steps to disinfect the package?

I'm being dead serious. A friend of mine cancelled his trip to a vendor conference in Atlanta (non reef related) where all the vendors just came back from a Chinese convention.

I was reading an article this morning that so far this flu season that 10,000 people have died in America. I believe the death toll due to Coronavirus is 563 total, none of those being in America.

You cannot catch coronavirus from a box.
Then why does the CDC preach a million times over:

WASH YOUR HAND to prevent spread of diseases (from touching door knobs, etc)???

Im more concerned with the internals inside the box being a carrier

I dont want to end up being the subject of a 60minutes TV segment ;Drool

Some viruses can survive on surfaces longer than others. Some can survive being dried out. Others cannot.

You might as well tell your mailman to stop delivering to your house after you receive said package too. He was exposed so now all your mail is exposed too, not just the box from China. But seriously, I wouldnt worry about it.

I think I'm at least.... going to buy 90% rubbing alcohol and put it in a spray bottle and mist as I open the package

You may be laughing and think it's all funny until you catch a deadly virus.

I had a weird strain of the Flu 2 yrs ago a Major Hospital couldn't ID.

Spent 4 days at the hospital on anti-viral med in saline bags. My heart began to build fluid around it. At 104° temp I know know what its like not being able to walk bc you're so sick and dying seems like a relief. $10,000 in med-bills later, I fully recovered

I totally understand what you're asking and I get it. I import lots of molded rubber from China and a few days ago I came down with a cold. I don't think I'm a germophobe or neurotic but you better believe the thought that I was coming down with some deadly China based illness did cross my mind. Of course I only had a cold and everyone at the warehouse who handles this stuff a lot more than I do is fine. I don't worry about it anymore but don't think you're alone in your concern.

Watch this video if you want to be more educated on the Corona Virus and how much of a risk it is to us (Very, very slim, only 11 cases reported and 0 deaths in the United States.)

It's more likely to get influenza in the United States which has infected and killed thousands of people.

Still wether or not its compared to the flu, they've shut entire city's, cruise ships, hotels, towns, entire providence's down. Hyundai stopped producing cars for the time being.

Something like that doesn't sit well with me. That's enuff to scare me to be a little cautious now with daily living

Unless it sneezes on you.
Seriously though I would think the contents would be more of a concern. The cardboard box would act as a dessicant to kill the virus. The hard surfaces of the contents would seem more risky. Still time since exposure is on your side.

70% alcohol is a better concentration for disinfection fyi. The alcohol needs water to help it kill things.
