It shouldn't rub off - velvet and ich are under the outer layer of skin. So if it all came off that easy then yes, it seems you have jumped the gun. It's ok. It means you are paying attention and prepared to act if it's needed. Let him rest from the ordeal a bit and see how he does.

+1 If its there one minute and gone the next, it likely was sand or debris stuck to the fish's mucous coat.

Yeah - man....poor guy. He caught a stint in solitary for nothing.

It was just a collection of dots all around his dorsal so I just assumed the worst and went for it. Oh well, I'll just leave him in there for a bit and see what happens. Hopefully nothing happens.
