On behalf of us and NYOS we do apologize to anyone that has experienced issues with the salt solidifying. We've taken some time to check our inventory of the NYOS PURE salt mix buckets and haven't found any so far that have been solidified. We are happy to get these replaced for anyone that has been having issues.

If you do receive one that has become rock solid we encourage you to reach out to our support team directly so we can get that replaced for you. Seeing this having happened as many times as it has been mentioned in this thread our support agent may ask for some additional details so that we can better understand the issue when you reach out. This is just to ensure we understand what is leading to the salt turning solid in the bucket or clumps in the bags.

Our support team can be reached via phone, email, or live chat: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/customer-service
So…I just received a bucket today from @Bulk Reef Supply , on first inspection there is no significant clumping. But, there is no ICP test, lot number, etc on the bucket. Isn’t there supposed to be? Looks like it was removed prior to shipping.

Yes that's exactly where it should go. Looks like someone ripped it off

Sticker could have gotten caught up on another bucket sitting on it. NYOS would be better off to place the sticker on the under side of the lid IMO

This sticker may have come loose and fallen off at some point. Contacting our support team they can assist on helping ID the bucket potentially and also help with a price match to the sale price for you as well.

I'm from Portugal and I'm thinking about buying this salt. I sent an email to nyos support asking if the problem with the salt getting hard was resolved but they still haven't responded. Will it be safe to buy?

I especially like the transparency and having triton results. But these last few posts have left me confused. I was thinking about buying salt from a German store, it's cheaper than in Portugal, but if it comes hard, it's a problem

I got replacement buckets for the bags I bought (on sale so they were same price as bags at MSRP) and happy to report they have no clumps that I can see and bags inside have an extra cable tie sealing them.

Thanks @Bulk Reef Supply for sorting it swiftly and professionally!

I bought the 20kg bucket in Aug 2023. Here's the sticker of the ICP and my test results. I don't have the potassium test kit so i skipped that. This bag was hard about 40%. I just used my screwdriver to crumble back to powder.

Salinity taken with Tropic Marin Precision Hydrometer @ 1.0265

Mag 1230
CA 415
Alk 7.7

Salifert was used for testing all three elements.

Numbers seem to match up except the Mag

I ordered the 20kg bag and it will be here on Monday. Will retest

These are my results. Notice that ATI claims my salinity was about 10% low which I find highly unlikely and was a constant issue when I did my salt tests. So add 8-10% to each of their results and it lines up super well

Alk: 8.3dkh (Triton), 8.7dkh (Hanna), 8.45dkh (Salifert), 7.83dkh (ATI)
Cal: 435 (Triton), 450 (Salifert), 411 (ATI)
Mg: 1366 (Triton), 1365 (Salifert), 1274 (ATI)
K: 420 (Salifert), 397 (Triton), 404 (ATI)
SG: 35PPT (NYOS label), 34PPT (both), 32.49 (ATI)
Temp: 74°

I'm getting some based on this thread.

It has good parameters, and I've stopped going with the super high alk stuff since I started dosing.

So i just want to update my experience with this salt. The first bucket i got was 7.9 alk.-8.0. Mag 1330, and calcium 430. Tested by hanna marine all in one test kit. This was perfect, i filled my whole 200 with that salt no problem. Second bucket i opened like a week ago, hard clumps, and the salt itself was hard as well, took a min to crack it down and use it.. as a new reefer i didnt know u shouldnt use hard salt like that it affects parameters.

So i did a 44 gallons water change with that salt. And i dropped from 1337 mag to 1260, and alk from 7.9-8.0 to 7.4. Tested by salifert 1000 times to confirm the accuracy. As a new reefer, i dont like this kind of hiccup's.

BRS replaced the buckets for me. But with all honesty they are going to be put in storage and wont be used im already looking at other brands for salt. And also i dosed the missing mag, and alk. And i might do calcium as well tomorrow. For a 2 months tank, dosing is stressfull for me, as i have bunch of LPS doing great, and i dont want to change the stability yet

What size system for a 44g water change? Did you test the new water before doing the water change? Anytime salt comes in hard or clumped, it needs to be tested before use.

To ease any worry, your mag and alk drop aren't going to cause any issues. Especially when you consider magnesium test kits have a +-50ppm margin of error. You are well within that. Plus magnesium is one element you can almost never worry about. 1200, 1300, 1400, doesn't really matter. It only matters when it really starts dropping and then it messes with calcium and alkalinity stability.
