Have you heard back yet?

Yes, they are sending a new bucket. My original bucket had a bag inside and the first use seemed fine. It was the subsequent uses that I noticed the hardened salt. I'm still able to use it regardless and do like the salt quite well. I'm not sure there was a rubber seal on ANY bucket of salt I've ever purchased. The bag inside should be sufficient to keep moisture at bay if tightly closed, in my experience.

Appreciate the feedback. In my experience, I ordered two buckets, both with bags and hard as rocks. I called BRS and they said the salt should still be good to use, so I used it and am very disappointed.

Once I scraped the salt to a point where I could use it I noticed it wasn't mixing well. Everyone seems to have mentioned how quick and clean this salt mixed for them. For me, although clean, it never really fully dissolved. I mixed the water for two hours and could never get all of the salt to mix in. I did a smaller than usual water change because of this. Last night I looked in my mixing bin and found a good amount of leftover salt.

I was really looking forward to this new salt because the levels are perfect for my system. I don't want to be quick to write this one off, but am really bummed. This was not a great first experience.

I'm going to reach out to Nyos directly to see if they can help remedy the situation, but am skeptical at this point. Hoping this was just a case of bad luck, but the fact that my corals aren't happy either is concerning. I'm not going to blame the salt at this point because I did have recent issues with an ALK spike, but my system is stable now and my acros polyps aren't out and happy as usual and other corals have shrunk and lost color.

I'll share updates after I get in touch with Nyos.

I’d have BRS replace both buckets while waiting on NYOS. No way their answer should have been to use it. It changes the chemistry when it turns hard like that. Things precipitate and won’t release back into solution when mixing

Nyos reached out to me a couple weeks back and informed me they were sending a new bucket, I've yet to receive it though.

In the meantime I did run out of salt and needed a new bucket, so I ordered one from BRS. There was about a softball-sized piece that was hardened but the rest seems fine.

I may have to order a bucket from BRS as well. My current supply is dwindling and I have not heard back either.

I ordered 2 bags that came with golf ball size chucks that crumble back to powder with a squeeze.

BRS was happy to replace them. I just hope the problem gets brought to NYOS.

Date of purchase? Mine was worst. 40% was hardened. I took a screwdriver and it crumbled back to powder. I have used nearly 90% of the salt.

I will throughly test and compare the ICP numbers this weekend for my water change.

I purchased 8/22 for the 20kg bucket through BRS. The issue I am seeing is the bag inside the bucket is not sealed when you get it. The bag is twisted with a reusable zip tie holding the twist. There was some caking of the product, but nothing rock hard. I think just the weight of the powder makes it cake up a little bit? Anything that caked just fell apart with the slightest pressure.

I am just over a month of using it on a brand new 40g tank. This is the only salt this tank has received. The directions were spot on for 34ppt. Adjust accordingly for 35ppt. This stuff mixes quickly & leaves no residue in the mixing container. The first corals (SPS) were added last Tuesday & today is day seven. I started test parameters every Saturday, so I am curious if any parameters change on my next test day.

I just got off the phone with BRS and they're sending a replacement bag of salt, it a was pretty smooth process actually. They did say they had no record of Nyos ever contacting them - contradicting what the Nyos agent told me in DM. Guess it's a bit of a push. Oh well.

I don’t know of any salt to at comes in bag in bucket that is sealed. At least I can’t think of any from my testing

On behalf of us and NYOS we do apologize to anyone that has experienced issues with the salt solidifying. We've taken some time to check our inventory of the NYOS PURE salt mix buckets and haven't found any so far that have been solidified. We are happy to get these replaced for anyone that has been having issues.

If you do receive one that has become rock solid we encourage you to reach out to our support team directly so we can get that replaced for you. Seeing this having happened as many times as it has been mentioned in this thread our support agent may ask for some additional details so that we can better understand the issue when you reach out. This is just to ensure we understand what is leading to the salt turning solid in the bucket or clumps in the bags.

Our support team can be reached via phone, email, or live chat: https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/customer-service

So the buckets are now opened?
