Their main recommendations are:
Reduce Potassium (465.4)
Reduce Silicone RO (360.8) DT (625.8) I use LFS as I haven't set my RODI
Reduce Calcium (478.6)
Dose Iodine (29.91) 2.95ml
Dose Zinc (ND) .87ml
Dose Manganese (ND) .43ml
Dose Iron (ND) .22
Dose Fluorine (.85) 18.24ml

Parameters this morning:
Alk 7.7
Ca 465
Mg 1230
NO3 8.2
PO4 .06

To do list:
  • Set an auto feeder for 2 cycles vs 1
  • Set Doser for 2 cycles for Alk, currently manual
  • Set the MP10 w battery as backup
  • Drill the stand to mount UV classic (a bit worry since it sits over the sump)
  • Glue down some of the tiles with corals
  • Raise Mg closer to 1350 however the BRS calculator says it's 600ml of ESV which seems like a lot.
Overall, pretty happy with the way the tank is coming along.

Some encrusting progress

Mounted the UV Classic to the stand using the "Neat" brackets. Have to do some cleaning on the tubing length and sump overall but likely after the trip.

Picked and dosed a bottle of Live Copepods from the LFS.
IMG_3923.JPEG

Going to allow a few days of the auto feeder running the 2 cycles before I test nutrients.

Alk currently at 7.6 looks like I need to adjust my dose a bit more as I set the Doser. Planning how to setup the probe holder and dose line holder in the sump.

Going to be multiple days away and trying to leave everything set.

Auto feeder currently set for 2 cycle
Doser set for 2 cycles but need to bump Alk
MP10 w battery backup set
Most coral tile are glue down have a few left

Got back from vacation and overall the tank fare well while I was gone. I didn’t lose any fish or corals which is good but found lots of corals on the sand bed (thanks to the urchins).
IMG_4337.jpeg

Unfortunately the biggest damage was the JF Flame coral landing on the new WWC Seared Stellaria chalice (ouch) which is half gone. I think both will pull thru, though.

Regarding parameters, I just measures the following:

Alk 7.8
Ca 400
Mg 1260
N03 1.8 (biggest drop)
P04 .05

This was last night when I got home most of the corals on the left side were on the sand behind the rock.

What appears to be some dino trying to get a foothold, need to fix nutrients.

Need to pick a few more corals I purchased but no plan to add new ones going forward.
Well spoke too soon… I did purchase some new corals from one of the online sales and need to pick them up. Trying to figure out when.

I also have a new aggression issue I’m dealing with and need to figure out something soon.

These two have some history. At first the Carpenter would harass the Redfin now is the other way around and 10x worse.

Dose again more Nitrates and Phosphorus to bring up these 2 values. Thinking of adding more fish but not sure yet at least until I trap the Redfin wrasse which I been unsuccessful.

Have a ton of diatoms in the sand bed. Prepare some DIY coral snow this morning to dose at nighttime. Realized that I haven't vacuum the sand bed ever or done a water change in a long time, it might be time for one.

Started to read about dosing ammonia from Randy DIY threads. Looking at previous post I been running low Nitrates for some time now.

Found one of the original photos of the Gold Hammer. It was a tiny 1 head frag I got about 1.5 years ago predates this tank.

Bump light intensity a bit more. Going to monitor closely the next few days/weeks.

Have been seeing growth, new tips, encrusting corals. The tank seems pretty happy just need to dial in the nutrients. (Been reading and purchased the Ammonium Bicarbonate as I'm running out of the NeoNitro)

Thinking about moving the urchins to the nano. They keep knocking corals down.

Found a tiny spec of what I believe is a TSA Fruity Pebble frag from the nano. Glue it to a plug and move it to this tank. Thought it was lost some time ago. Long recovery ahead but the plan is to bring it back.

PR_nano, how are you liking that OCTO tank setup?
I really like the tank, with the exception of the 2 things I listed in the initial post (tubes vs pipe and the small reservoir with weren’t a big issue). The only other thing is that I could think is that there is no typical return nozzle to direct flow, it is just a vent but I have 3 wave pump in the tank. The overall quality, stand, glass and even equipment I have no complaints.

Good to hear. I have been searching for a tank in this size range but has concerns with glass thickness vs other rimless tanks. Sounds like overall quality is up there. Thanks.

Hello reefers,

I decided to document the progress of the new reef. I went with the Reef Octopus Octo LUX T90 system which is advertised as an "All in One". There aren't many build threads on these tanks, so I hope to capture lots of details for anyone interested in them or that wants to follow along.

Tank - Glass 35"L x 18"W x 18"H with a tank volume of 48 gallons
Stand - MDF and laminate measuring 39.5"H
Sump - OS-30B acrylic 30"L x 12"W x 16"H
Return Pump – AQ-3000 925 GPH max flow
Protein Skimmer – Reef Octopus 6” Classic 150INT

Additional equipment

Light - Maxspect Razor X 150w with the ICV6
Light - (2) AI Blade 30 Grow
Flow – (2) Maxspect XF330, Ecotech MP10
Heater -Eheim JAGER 150W
ATO – Tunze Osmolator 3155
Controller/Dosing – Apex A2/DOS

There are two things that I don't like but weren’t deal breakers:
The included slim water reservoir, which is integrated in the back panel only has a 1.5-gallon capacity. I plan to use my 5-gallon IM reservoir.
The other is the included flexi tubing which I converted the drains to hard tubing. Reef Octopus uses metric instead of imperial for this tank. (32mm) for drains and (25mm) for return.

As of today, the tanks have been running for over 24hours on RODI without any leaks. I had 2 previous ones and ended up using a product recommended here called “Plasto-Joint Stick”. I will always use this product for any plastic thread. Total game changer.

Hello i'm actually About to buy the thirty two gallon version of this tank I was also advised to hard plumb the drain tubes. What exactly did you do to convert it? Would you be able to add a link to the pieces you bought? I have no idea on how to do this. I've watched videos, but still not very informative.

Hello. I'm actually about to buy a thirty two gallon version of this tank And was wondering what pieces you used to convert it to hard plumbing from metric I know nothing about it and have never had to plumb A tank before a link would be awesome to the prices you used if you can?

All of the included drain plumbing (main and emergency) for the Reef Octo T90 tank is metric size 32mm. Not sure of the T60.

I bought metric size but you could also convert metric to standard if you wish.

For the main drain I use:
(2) 90 degree elbow
(1) union
For the emergency drain I use:
(1) coupling
(2) 90 degree elbow
(1) union
In total I use approximately 5’ of pipes

Let me know if you have any other questions.
