I had an issue with a Hanna checker also (but I've only had one unit to test). I agree, getting salinity/specific gravity measuring tools to agree with one another is difficult. I recently discovered that the German glass hydrometer that I relied on all these years has been changed, the one brand I saw no longer has a range from 1.0000 to 1.0040, it seems to only read in the range of marine aquariums.

Have you seen my article?

The article was very helpful, thank you. What size cylinder should I order to use with the glass hydrometer? Do you think the Tropic Marin hydrometer is "good enough" or should I order a high quality device?

The Tropic Marin hydrometer is very accurate, but that is the one that seems to have been changed from many years ago, from a full range unit to one that only reads about 1.021 to 1.031, so you cannot use it for hyposalinity treatments.
