If you're heating it the acid could be eating away at something? Foam, pvc, silicone? The color looks similar to the writing on pvc?

The pvc is ok . No silicone to speak of in the tank. It's definitely either some kind of algae, bacteria or I'm hatching some kind of alien [emoji89]! Lol

No . No residents. No salt . No nothing actually.

Just water and vinegar. That's what's crazy!! [emoji12][emoji12]

Ya I would start with the RO for Top off and stop Vinegar if you are still adding. I think it maybe a sediment in your water that collects on the film that the Vinegar is producing. What does your Pre Filter look like on your RO ? Do you have a lot of sediment in your water?

I wonder if it could be Serratia Marcescens, it's a bacteria that has a reddish hue

From link "can kill saltwater corals"
Actually ran across a couple papers the other day about it infecting corals..

This bacteria loves wet environments..

Actually my incoming TDS is around 120... my filters last a good long while and have never seen heavy iron deposits or anything.

I would sanitize it with a little bleach in the water. I did that when I was leak testing my current system two years ago just to make sure it was clean. Just drained it afterwards and filled with tap again with some prime and drained it again. Let it dry out completely and filled with RO/DI, then salt.

Looks like bacteria to me. Nuke it.

Probably overkill. Hey, better safe than sorry.

I didn't read the whole thread.... just a warning in case I'm off base here. to recap, you filled this tank with tap water and set it to run with filter socks to clean it out right? Just tap water? It looks like something bacterial to me. Nasty weirdness for sure. There's something gross in your tap water dude.

Your right on target [emoji457] only tap water and vinegar. It's been running for 2 weeks heated . Filter socks yes.

Something in the tap water?? Not impossible!
