so coming into this hobby i always fought the concept/belief that this hobby is expensive. And i continuously believed this when i had my nano (a RSM 34g)..

but i've upgraded recently to a 120g and i've conceded. this is an expensive hobby..

anyone still in denial?

I think that it can be as inexpensive, or as expensive, as you make it. The hard part is that the "addiction" takes over, haha. I still think it can be done on the "fairly" cheap if one is aiming for that goal.

Its the individual. I had a thread talking about similer stuff about hyped products that we are buying to make our lives simpler. Basiclly, the hobby price compares to how lazy you are.

If you are not lazy and take care of your tank and do what you need to do, it can be done cheap, if your lazy and want nothing to do with your tank than just stare at it, its going to be very expensive.

LOL, I hear ya.
I'm trying to get my 120 ready & its already putting a hole in my wallet just on some equipment... can't imagine how deep i would get when its finally up n running~:xd:

Expensive up front, but not too bad to sustain. The tank, lights, skimmer, power heads, live rock, are tough on the wallet especially with larger tanks. After that, how expensive it becomes is really up to you. No doubt, corals can easily exceed the amount paid for equipment, but if you look or deals and have some friends it's not so bad.

My other hobby (that I've neglected for my reef habit) is playing around with cars so in comparison to something like that this hobby isn't that bad. Well unless you buy every "LE" coral out there that is.

I use this all the time! Hahaha. I'm trying to figure out now how I am justifying the new AI LED's though. Told her about the cost savings in bulb replacement and electric. Guess what response I got...... Yup, you guessed it "uh huh" lol

I agree with what others have said that it is expensive to get into initially but not so much to maintain. I always considered myself a "budget reefer" I buy used when I can to help make it "less expensive" lol. I just love the people that have to have high end everything and put the money towards the tank before they pay the mortgage or car....:ooh:
