Hey all,

I had a chance to go back to my parents house and pick up some old Reef gear I had 15-16 years ago.

Right Now I'm setting up a 2ft cube tank and need all the gear.

Lets start with the 15 year old RODI unit.

System cleaned up well. I saw online you can order replacement filters for around 100 dollars for everything, new systems go for about double or 2.2x that price. Not sure if it makes sense to get this old boy up and running.

Old Live rock which is now Dry.

Should I be worried about the dry organic elements on the rock? I do have Macro rock coming on Monday but maybe I can use this in the sump?

Old 15 year old salt

The salt looks fine, I will have to research if people still use this salt but might be ok to use, I feel like salt doesn't go bad.

Thank you for the fun conversations to come,
Delly

I would personally use all of that 🙂

For the rock, if it was once used and now dry, I’d bleach cure it to get rid of the excess organics trapped in and on it. This article should help:

Good luck!

I agree with Fish Fan.
You may have some dry rock now that's more interesting than the macro rock. It actually looks to be in pretty decent shape.
I would replace the auto shut off valve on the ro/di unit as well as the filters.

Just make sure if you remember that the rock was never used in a tank with Copper meds.
