Hi guys! Old reefer >15 yrs ago and just restarting .. the learning curve is real as when I used to keep them I kept them in tap water / salt mix as rodi was was relatively expensive and I successfully kept a 4ft mixed reef with softies, Zia. And polyp based corals well. Running an old fluval 405! Now with better lighting.. top of units fleece rollers in very out of my depth I’m currently figuring out how to build an open but simple scape for the same types of corals as before but really want to keep macro algae in it for a natural look. Any tips for making the hardscape? Does it have to be glued ? Filter wise I’ve made my own internal sump with bright filter blocks. Bio porus spheres as they work well in my tropical aquarium. I feel like it needs more but really want to stay away from foams :) Any advise would be welcomed

Welcome :) :) !! To answer your question, no your rock does not have to be glued as long as it is secure. If you do want to make more elaborate shapes, you can use mortar and superglue though.

Thanks waters. I think I’ll just maybe glue 1 bit :) maybe. It’s a lot more daunting compared to old school . I didn’t even have a skimmer last time.. and I haven’t got a uv as I have no real way of plumbing one in :)

I’m planning a small mixed reef hopefully with some macro algae for the natural look. I’ve made my scape and took advice and just glued 1 weird one.. just contemplating putting some 5mm Eva foam inside the tank under the rocks to help cushion the rock to glass bit. Maybe just 2 20cm squares under the islands? But this is my scape I think :)
