might be a silly question but do clams move? Much like nems will move until they are happy but do clams do the same thing? Should they be left alone if it does move?

they do. but, they should be placed somewhere so that their "roots" (stringy things coming out of the bottom) can attach to, some kind of substrate or live rock. Once that happens don't try to pry/pull them off or you run the risk of killing them. they can but don't have to be on the sand. I usually place the clam in a groove (make sure it's wide enough so the clam can open up) on a piece of live rock, they get attached to that rock but i can still move it around the tank or rock structure if necessary.

Agreed, if mine move I let them be and just keep an eye on them for a few days. They are moving because they aren't happy with their or "your placement" and are looking for a better spot. Moving them too much can stress them out causing death, and that is why I let them figure it out for a few days if they move themselves.

Some clams actually prefer the sandbed (Derasa), Crocea like to be up on rocks as do Maximas. But, in our aquariums, that can be dangerous unless placed correctly. They do move and need plenty of room to open. Make sure they are getting the light they need. Leave them be unless they fall and damage themselves or others. :)

The first pic, the clam looks a little bleached and the mantle in the upper right of the pic is curled a little bit. This could be pinched mantle, or it could be the clam was just doing it when you took the pic. Is it doing it now? If so remove all phosphate removal media and run carbon hard and it should clear up, it is in the early stages if it is PM.

the first one might have just had that happen during the pic because that top right portion looks like the rest of the mantle right now. that bleaching yellow color was the light angle. It really doesn't have that yellow tinge to it. i did shut off my phosban reactor though just to see if there's a difference.
The second one just needs a few days to open?

Yeah I have had Crocea's do that, they could just be used to not opening fully due to previous cramped conditions. It should open more over time.
