130G display I am in a toss up between 1 or 2 mp30s. I know they are rated for 50 -500 gal but creating a circulating pattern would 1 be sufficient without being too rough on softies too close to the flow. Tank is 6' long. 18" deep. 24" high.

I take it you are talking about VorTechs? There's only MP10, 40 and 60. I'd definitely recommend Two MP40s for the tank size but if you don't plan on getting SPSs, might be overkill to have VorTechs to begin with.

That tank is long and narrow ... have you looked into the new gyre 200 series? If I was looking to use vortechs alone on a tank your size I'd do 2 mp40's on the ends and 2 or 3 mp10's (depending on the rock work) on the back glass. A couple gyre 250's and a controller might be an option worth considering.

That is almost identical to my tank size (21"high on mine) and 2 MP40's aren't enough flow in the middle. Just don't reach very well out to 36". I'm adding a small pump on the back wall in the middle to help with flow in that area.

I can point my 4 returns towards the middle and try it that way. What power level are you running your 40s on?

I can put them on max and have incredible flow on the edges but still not much in the center. The difference between 40% and 100% at 36" isn't very noticeable.

I have two mp40w's on my 180g. I'm definitely looking to add some mp's on the back wall. Or might do a gyre and put the 40's on the back wall
