One spot foxface

Hey friends.

Now that I’ve finally finished my first round of qt,

My 75g has:
Clown
Firefish
Yellow Chrysus wrasse
Coral beauty
Purple tang

I’d like to add more bioload, but mostly I would like to add more fish.

I am seriously considering a one spotfoxface.

I was considering a bristletooth but feel like the tangs would tear eachother apart, but the foxface at least can fend for himself.

Thoughts?

Ps: there is a plan a few years down the road to obtain a 6-7 foot tank for expansion

The 75g is a four foot tank, you will be fine.
Also, the purple tang and a bristletooth will coexist just fine. Yes, they are both 'tangs', but different species and different body shapes.

I added a one spot foxface in my new tank, just as I did in my old one, and they are great at keeping algae down. In my old tank it cleaned out a bad caulerpa racemosa infestation.

It’s not the species but the genus that really dictates aggression. Of course conspecifics will not tolerate each other without some effort, but they won’t tolerate other fish in the same genus either.

I had a one spot foxface in my 120 gallons (4 foot) and would not do it again. They get big and don’t have enough room to swim as they should. Mine was bored and blowing bubbles all day.

I rehomed it in a 6 foot tank and it was happily swimming and no more bubbles.

The one spot looks cool. I may add one of those next after my yellow tang and rabbit fish have gone through their observational QT

As with Idech, I have a one spot in my 4ft 120g. It gets big fast and really needs a 6ft tank. I would not do it again.

How far down the road are you planning your tank up grade? My one spot got large very fast. I would base your decision on your time line. I do have a purple tang and one spot in my 150 and they are inseparable.

I would not do it in a 75 either........mine is pretty close to full grown in a 180 and is huge. Don't know other people's experiences with them but tangs and other algae eaters don't always get along. Yes, he can defend himself, but he can still take a beating, as mine did when trying to add additional tangs....and that was in a large tank.

I find that the one spot fox faces generally stay pretty small 6” or so and mine have always utilized the height of a tank more than the length. Mine will swim up to the surface and down more than tangs or other fish. I kept one in a 75 gallon for a few years and he was the happiest fattest fish in the tank.

I say far down the road, but if I was entirely honest, if someone put up one for sale and the deal is good I may magically find myself with a new 6' tank! lol. How fast does the fox face grow? if I got one I would get the smallest possible.

My one spot is 2 years in my 75 gallon. I got him about 2.5 in. He is about 4.5 now. Fat and happy along with a Scopus Tang and a Yellow Candy Hogfish. They are always together.

That’s interesting I didn’t know blowing bubbles was a sign of being bored. I had mine in a 7 foot tank and he blew bubbles for like 4 years.

It’s just my assumption. I could be wrong but that’s how it felt to me. I didn’t find it healthy that it was doing that all day, continuously, except when eating.

Personally I’d be going for the Foxface option, I have 2 in my tank currently (well, a Magnificent Foxface and a Virgate Rabbitfish). I have no tangs and haven’t kept tangs in my personal tanks for the last year because of the terror they have caused in the past.
Generally, Foxfaces stay on the smaller side, and don’t grow insanely rapidly, Rabbitfish in comparison do grow quickly once they start. My Virgatus was about 2 inches around 2 months ago, it’s now 4-5 inches. My Magnificent, I got him May 30th and he’s barely grown.
I have also had much larger foxfaces - my previous 2 Magnificents were both 7-8 inches long before they passed, I also had a Tongan Black which was 8-9 inches but none of them really grew much at all during the time I had them.
