Focused light will always out perform non-focused but sometimes beyond hanging height limitations it truly is about the overall look or unneeded intensity level. For my situation even with a primarily SPS dominated Reef without is preferable yet have seen some rimless systems with lights hung 36" or more above which gave an aesthetic appeal that with only using quality optics could achieve.

I recently went from 90* optics hung higher to removed optics hung lower, gotta say I'm loving running no optics. light spill is certainly worse but the light seems softer and better blended. my corals also seem to be repsponding in a positive way.

I think I'm going to stay optic-less..

next up: adding t5's
