I got mine at BoomCorals and it looks just like this. On the site it’s says ORA, so I’d assume it’s legit.

I trust the source, but had the OG, on the OG plug, back in 2006-7 around the time of release. I actually had ORA contact me for permission to use my photo on their site, I was honored, and to see my baby on ORA's webpage, at that time was cool as crap. I will see if I can find it, and post if I do. This piece seems different, but tge table pattern familiar... Weird...
I really don't care, to me it's a prize, and the coral is best viewed under white spectrum. That piece is being baked under 10xt5- 4xB+, 4xABS, 2xP+

Mine came from a trusted source.. I’d say it’s the real deal! Theres just not another coral that glows like this one even out of the water it’s super bright. I’ll get a video taking it out of the tank it’s the same color if not brighter. At night I hit it with a flash light and it’s still colored unlike every other coral 99% of the time.

I'm just going to visit you when I'm in the area and pay for a frag or two :)

On a more serious note I exchanged emails with ORA with regards to locating an original and ORA suggested I reach out to TSA. ORA was pretty positive they had true lineage. I reached out to TSA who then responded that yes, their frags are from their original ORA that is their primary mother colony.

So if any others are looking I would recommend reaching out to TSA and just make sure they are still being true.

Colors look good, growth looks a tick off IMO. The OG has growth similar to that of A. Desalwii/Batunai with smoother elongated axials and more spacing, less symmetrical on radial corallites. Could be wrong, just an observation. I know Raising Reefs had the OG not sure if they still do, tons of very close knock offs

This was when it was a frag. Under halides at this time and it’s changed its growth structure with leds as you see today.

The frag looks more like it, it's an extremely nice piece either way. Just never seen it look so uniform as a colony but very well could just be the flow/lighting

Maybe we can throw together four reefing influencers for panelists and present them with 3 different Pearlberry coral frags for challengers. The influencers must identify correctly which is the real ORA Pearlberry by asking it questions ;)

We would make Bob Stewart proud.

It’s super hard to photograph.. this is with an orange lens and it still messes with the camera since it’s so bright.

ORA has said that the Pearlberry resembles an Acropora desalwii but did not get positive ID.

For those with Coral Magazine - here is Vincent Chalias commentary on Acropora desalwii. Jan 27, 2023 | CORAL - Vincent Chalias, Marine

I have one desalwii from Biota and it is a pretty cool coral. Slight coloration differences based on their placement within my display. This piece I accidentally broke off earlier in the week while doing some maintenance. NOT a Pearlberry but rather a Palauberry ;)

Hard to go by coloration because of the differences under lighting type and camera. Morphologically it seems to be similar to an ORA Pearlberry with the corallites shades darker and the branch tips purplish. Here’s mine, directly shipped from ORA on their famous plastic plug under predominately white LED’s:

And under 20K metal halides

(I did lessen the saturation of the MH pic but it actually is pretty close to the true look.sur

I think this is the only original pearl berry on this thread so far.

Many of them are still super nice, but just not the same as the OG. It was the growth form that made that one a spectacular piece. The sparse radial corallites and smooth pearlescent branches were like no other. There may have even been separate versions of it sold by ORA.. who knows..

Aquavista looks like the one I’m referring to. Here’s a pic from raising reefs colony. Lighting/flow plays a role in structure but this version seemed to have this growth regardless.

I know what you’re saying.. mine looked completely different under halides like you can see in my posts above.. when I switched to LEDs it tightened the structure up as it grew out.
