They use the same flame retardant polycarbonate filament, the issue with black is two fold, in most cases, plastics are made black by adding carbon, this filament is difficult for two main reasons, it soaks up moisture like a sponge so unless it is dried thoroughly it sputters and pops and leads to blemishes, the melting point is very high and through the entire process it has to be kept very hot. Black has more moisture retention and is difficult to dry and just like a black car shows every flaw, it is the same here, white almost no cases have defects, in black we initially had to through 80% of them away, these are just cosmetic defects but no one wants a pop/scar mark on a product that costs this much. There is no real reason to not buy black, we designed white originally simply because walls are usually white, the goal was to hide it, not show it off. We have improved production of black considerably and they will be readily available very soon.
