Howdy,

Does anyone have any experience with the orchid ? I am thinking of one for my 30 gallon tank. I know Dottyback are pretty territorial and if it not the last fish added it could result in some issues.

Any thoughts ?

I think they're supposed to be the least aggressive dottyback? I have one and haven't had aggression issues with it. Occasionally it and the molly miller blenny will chase each other around the rock, but no harm has resulted. It's a very active fish, swims out in the open a lot. If you have shrimp, I believe it will eat them.

Mine is captive bred, not sure if that lessens the aggressive behavior or not, but I'd like to think so :)

Thanks for the info ! What's your stocking look like ?

I have two clowns two Cardinals and I think I'll be adding an orchid and maybe a Gramma idk yet

Orchid Dottyback are docile and will not bother a thing. At 2.5 inches max, they are too small to eat cleaner shrimp. Mine never bother a thing.

I don't have / want a cleaner shrimp

2 clowns
molly miller blenny
radial filefish
2 cardinals
indigo orchid dottyback

I'm fairly certain it ate the peppermint shrimp I added. I didn't see it kill them, but it was very interested and they haven't made an appearance since they went in.

You have two dottybacks ? Don't they fight ?

Picture makes it look more blue than it actually is, color in person is much more purple.

I have one in my 75. No issues :)

I have one in my RSM 130 (34 gallon). He doesn't bully anything, he gets intimidated by the royal Gramma.

He DOES like to dig. I didn't know that they did that.

I don't mind them digging. They're beautiful fish.

I don't either. I kept finding holes and sand on my corals. I didn't know where it was coming from until I caught him in action.

idk if i'd add a gramma to a smaller tank with an orchid. maybe add the gramma first and let it get comfy and then add the dottyback down the road

my orchid is mostly chill. he was kind of a ****** to my halichoeres wrasses when i added them, but nothing big just letting them know where his cave zone is. he disappeared for a week when i added a flame angel that went right into his cave zone and decided it was his now

someone mentioned them digging and mine does that too. i seem to have this effect on fish because my midas blenny digs too what the heck? the orchid only grabs a laughable amount of sand and moves it, but the blenny is capable of a lot more sand moving
