Outlet gave out..

I know it has 4 wire plus a ground. I've been an electrician for 17 years. Put the 2 black wires under the input/line on the brass screw and the 2 white wires on the input/line side silver screw.

Is this what your suggesting or to switch it from this? This was how it was setup and then how I attempted to reconnect it. My little post above lists how I get an indicator or not.

I feel like on the back of your receptacle it clearly says line. Change it from the way you have it to both sets of wires being under the line side.

Keep the pictured white wire where it is and move the other one to here. Then do the same with the black.

You didn't connect it wrong, but there are multiple ways to do it. Connecting it the way you did should have worked but if the GFCI trips it would take out every outlet connected after it.

Wired the way I pictured, if the GFCI trips it will only remove power to the these 2 outlets. They give you options on how to connect it.

Can you read the back of your receptacle? It clearly states where the line is at. But both white wires on the same side you have it right now under the same screw. And the same on the black both wires should be under the same screw. I can read the receptacle where it says a line in your picture so you should be able to do it in person as well.

Line comes from the source / breaker panel
Load goes out to rest of circuit.
Black is the hot wire
White is your neutral.
Bare or green is your ground.
Now you are more " well versed" than the average person :D

Ok so now once again I am lost I get an led light but the reset button nor test button can be pressed... like I press it but it doesn’t click or anything

I'm fairly confident you have your line and load neutral and hot confused so if you wire at the way that I'm telling you which is in my opinion the best way to wire it since you have so much of your apartment running off of it that this will not interrupt your bedroom if the GFI trips out.

I can imagine how frustrating this must be trying to explain to someone online. I’m sorry.

Are you suggesting my white lines are actually the black ones? Or how are u suggesting I rewire it exactly? I can take tho whole thing off and show you a pic of the entire back and outlet

Check your breaker. Turn it off then on
It should be firm.
If still doesnt work try a standard outlet. Somethings goin on, but it seems like we should be able to figure this out for you

So I am going to undo a set of the bottom wires correct? So it’s just two wires connection the outlet? One white one black on the top that says line?

But we need to figure out which hot and neutral come from the panel.

So I got this to work... and the rest of my house has lights now and my other outlets do as well. But I have a feeling I am not done.. what do I do now? Atfirst there was no light and I pressed reset it blinked red then turned green


If I left it as is what would happen? Do I need to continue to do something now?

Thanks for everyone for their patience and help! Just saved me having to pay for an electrician I can’t afford! Also made my family not put me in the shed after finding out half their rooms didn’t have power!
