Never really thought about this before but will overfeeding LPS (elegance for example) cause it to dump its' zooxanthellae since it technially wouldn't be needed anymore? I have an elegance that is starting to bleach in random spots.....it gets fed mysis once a day due to its' location being right under where I feed the fish. It catches and eats constantly.

Overfeeding many lps can lead to issues as the mouth and anus are the same, and they need to complete digestion and possibly excrete waste before taking jn more food.

Overfeeding before digestion completes can also result in over abundance of food in the stomach which can foul and rot before it gets digested, resulting in sickness

If you feed heavy it’s recommended once every 2-3 days. If it’s just a small amount then daily should be ok

Thusfar I've been of the mindset that they get most of what they need from light, and therefore I spot feed them 1-2x a week, and I haven't had any issues yet.
Correct.....but what if they aren't getting the majority of their nutrition from light and more from solid foods.....do they kick the zoo out?

I actually moved the elegance away from where I feed to see if that helps the bleaching. It has doubled in size over a six month period and didn't start having issues until he started grabbing a lot of mysis. There are multiple torches in the same area that also grab food but it doesn't seem to be affecting them at all. Could all be coincendence.....the elegance could have something else going on.

No. Feeding is beneficial. If they are in light they will utilize it also

Most likely due to change in light or flow

But also. Elegance is a very hard coral to keep long term, very poor survival rate. I believe there was a pattern found with the skeleton, with it being cone shape vs flat. I remember reading it was believed that one had much better survival but I forget the specifics.

I’ve tried elegance numerous times, they look great but suddenly decline and die within a year.

There is also a elegance specific disease that is common I forget it’s name also.

I do not have the answer for this question.

When I target feed corals, I turn all flow off. If you broadcast feed now, I would think if you changed to turning flow off you could control how much food the elegance gets.

Yeah, it is called ECS.......definately nothing enviromental causing the issue. He has been in the exact same place since I added him, over 6 months ago. Has doubled in size and looked great.....until he didn't lol. Unfortunately I paid a ton for him so I hope he pulls through.

Yeah, I could.....but I run a wavemaker (and only a wavemaker). Takes a bit for the waves to die down and ramp back up. Easier to just dump the food in lol. Plus the lid has a feed hole.....right above the elegance. Turning flow off would make it worse lol.
