overflow assistance anybody? (video attached)

video says it all. sorry about the snorting, think im getting a cold.

 
You can probably use a coupling. Say the existing pipe is 1" get a 1" coupling. This will extend the pipe like you wanted and allow the strainer to be inserted again.

id prefer not to lift the pipe any higher though, i dont want it to start coming over the teeth on my overflow box, then it will be real easy for a fish to slide on in there. i wanna try and get something like a flexible screen, to just cover the hole.
