Overhang on Red Sea tank

Just picked up a used Red Sea E170 max, and after getting it situated on the stand the entire front panel hangs off when the back of the tank is flush. The front panel lines up with the door so the design seems intentional, but curious to see if this is structurally sound. Last pic is showing the back of the tank flush with the stand.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn’t trust a used Red Sea tank in any situation. Do a search for Red Sea tank fails! The fact that it isn’t totally supported just adds more red flags.

That’s how it was designed and it’s known to fail over and over! If it’s a g2 you might be okay but any g1 is suspect!

Yeah I looked up failures for this exact model and only found one result vs the large amounts of failures on the larger models. This is only a 45 gallon which is why I purchased it vs the larger tanks. I checked the seams before taking it home and they all look good for now, but will keep a careful eye on them.

Noted, thank you! I wasn't able to find more than a couple of E170 failures vs the plentiful failures of the larger tanks which is why I was comfortable purchasing this tank. Wouldn't ever test my luck with any of the larger RS models.

It's not only RS tanks that have the floating front panel design. My water box has it and I've seen other brands but can't remember which ones.
This is JMO but I think many of the redsea seam failures are caused by silicone failures not the floating panel design. Too many split on the side and even the back seams. RS blamed it in the stands not having a center brace which may have been an issue on some if the larger failures but it isn't why the seam failed in the upper right front corner of my reefer 170. It just looks like crappy silicone to me. Granted the tank was 6 years old but I've had off the shelf marineland and aqueon tanks last much longer than that.

I think they fixed that problem with the g2 series but I think that is how the g1 was designed

Thanks for the in-depth response! I’ll make sure to monitor the silicone closely. It looks super solid right now, but that can always change.

I also had a 170, caught the separation before the disaster. Both sides of front panel. Within hours everything went into a brute. Wasn’t about to wreck my wood floor. Good Luck with your tank and keep checking those seams.

I had a red sea 250, front seam failed. Several out there with the same experience. I don't know how their tanks are still being sold honestly.

Yes I saw a failed 350G1 at a LFS. LFS was giving it away free for someone who wanted to tear it apart to reseal. The tank was on a rock solid metal stand. Seam failed at the top edge, a small leak formed.
