so the purple attraction was great when i started the tank over a year ago. I have since snipped it off with scissors to no avail. I think my only option is to remove all rockwork and start fresh.

This being asked, I have 3 fish in a 70 gallon with a 20-gallon sump. will I need to watch for cycling, or should I have enough bacteria?
1.5" of sand bed, and probably 50lbs of rock.

If you remove the rock and/or sand you remove most of the bio film…bio filter.

You would need to have careful watch on ammonia and be ready to do water exchanges if it’s building.

I would cycle your new rock in a tub for a few weeks just to build up some bacteria . Then remove the old and put in the new. Sell that coral covered rock. You do not want it but others would gladly pay for it.

ok that makes sense, I'll start a heated tote with rock, and give it some time. I'll see if I can trade some of the covered rock for something.

Cutting them off won’t work because they will grow back from the tissue left attached to the rock. I’ve successfully used locking forceps to grab and then pull each individual growth off the rock right at the base. They may return but you can do the same to those as well and soon enough they loose enough energy to die off for good.
